Because this is made by Avalanche and it's going to be a poorly written Ubisoft-esque checklist open world game. Laughing Laughing

Same Very Happy Was also thinking such game would be insane for VR if the technology was more advanced. Like casting the spells, requiring you to make specific move with the wand and say the words. Very Happy

I really hope the sound is good. The movies with Atmos surround sound is something amazing. If they can get that same atmosphere in the game i'll be a bit happier. So long as the game play is somewhat decent,

Just skimmed through as I don't want to be spoiled before playing, but it's looking to live up to the hype? It has free 'open world' flying, that's a plus at least Smile

Lots of hands on previews released today.
I really don’t find the Harry Potter movies appealing but this looks good!

Some negatives I gathered from these videos is that it has RDR2-like quests, where you can't stray too far from the given path. But this is only during these kinds of quests, at least.
It's supposedly also pretty linear, so not a 'Skyrim with wands', and player choices are limited to 'nice'/'good' and 'jerk'/'evil'.

Yeah, getting true freedom à la Skyrim would be the next step of awesome, but it is asking for a lot Very Happy I guess you'll get some alternative endings depending on certain key decisions/your karma/reputation or whatever as per usual.
If this is anything remotely close to the level of RDR2 though, I'll be more than happy with its linearity Razz I guess they are also more or less catering to their target audience - and that audience needs its pointers and corridors Laughing

Nope, had enough of the gigantic checklists that are open world games. Semi open ala gothic 2, witcher 1 and 2 etc plx

@Stormwolf I'm the exact opposite, while this game isnt my style so probably will skip it. I much prefer open world, even if faux open world, to linear railroad pin pointed progression direction in an RPG.
My ultimate RPG style game would be: Spawn me in, no intro or exposition. And tell me "You exist, go figure out where things are, what to do, what you even can do, and how to play..see you at the end of the game" And leave me to run around where I want, doing what tickles my fancy until I either run out of things to find to do, or I grow bored of the world.

I don't care about those checkmarks whatsoever, I'm veeeeery good at completely ignoring them, I don't even see them despite popups and constant reminders Very Happy

But yeah, I figure it'll be something like that, we're in 2023 after all ! Very Happy
All in all, it'd quite reminiscent of how the first two HP games played, the core gameplay structure seems fairly similar, doesn't it ? Open world hubs to go to missions/lessons, collectibles and secret areas to find.
I have fond memories of those two first games because they were pretty good for what they were, and we went through them with my little sister at the time Smile I was amused to see there's a thriving modding scene for HP2 on the PC still building new levels and missions - and tbh they look great.

The game you're looking for might come as a more ambitious sequel, but I don't expect something truly groundbreaking for a first iteration. But I doubt they'd go full RPG with it, probably just copy/paste the first game with some additions, let's be realistic Very Happy
This is too big of a license to get the sort of game you want.. be realistic you guys !! Laughing Razz A Skyrim/Witcher-like game could slap and be a commercially success, but the execs gotta want that.. maybe in the future, since this one will likely be a money-making hit.

Im intrigued but the combat. The white outlines, the damage numbers popping up, constant rolling.. just doesn't look good to me. Looks like a good smattering of spongey enemies too

yeah, looks like boring combat, and it's also a non-reactive game world (shoot a student, nothing will happen unless its a quest to do just that)

might be good overall though, looks like something i would want to play a cosy winter day.

True, this sort of universe calls for hot cocoa Very Happy
Not particularly sold on the Souls-esque combat either, but I wasn't very sold on it in the movies either.
