It's on it's last breath but you can easily get 40h out of it with the main story and DLC NY.
Some new content expected in the coming months and the F Team of Massive's branch cares little or has no real capability but what lies underneath is still a pretty good looter shooter
Yeah, played the game and the expansion for like 200 hours back in the day, I think. But that was years ago, and there were news of the game dying back then already. Hence, I'm surprised to see this still floating around, as well as coming to steam. Guess they're flogging a dead horse.
Had a bit of a moment when I got back into the game and hit the last tier, game said "OK" and progressed through all the previous season contents resulting in a highly confusing mess of what is going on since you get dumped right into events of the last seasonal goings-on.
Suddenly the castle is back and armed in a way that makes the white house hub pathetic and there's Black Tusk operatives on the Division side now.
Much of the old team is either dead or have turned and there's a new, even derpier, watch to listen on for various situational updates.
For quick sessions though the environmental storytelling and exploration is still there and works really well, game doesn't have the latest engine tech but works pretty well albeit with some of those early D3D12 implementation quirks.
(Also isn't buried or has its performance tank under a mass of fancy shader stuff or ray tracing.)
Bit more of an end-game goal now as well though the revamped loot drops and equipment acquisition also makes it faster to gear up, as before it feels a bit less varied when compared to the build diversity in the first game as well even if there are more sets and such available now, exotic gear and other high-end rewards.
The AI also finally feels less ridiculously aggressive when on the higher tiers since the AI opponents always have more armor and health they would often abandon tactics and just close in on melee and that would one-shot most players the way melee attacks are intended to punish rushing up to enemies and just unloading on them.
There are still classes that do this intentionally but the support classes like the healer and techies will no longer join in on a bare-handed beatdown of the player character.
EDIT: Its a fine game in short bursts, just don't try to make too much sense of it.
And while the premium store works just fine and some bugs have been sorted out, expect other longer-lasting outstanding issues to still very much be there.
Fun in short sessions or more casual tackling of some of the new content if you're not trying to take on the highest challenge tiers and run with a proper group.
Would be fun to see an actual sequel but while this game got re-activated to give Ubisoft some sort of longer-running live-service game I'm not sure how Massive are doing overall.
The Snowdrop engine is fancy and all but they seem to be the only ones using it and I think both Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar ultimtely flopped their sales goals, in addition to a plethora of issues both games had at launch.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
