According to a legend the discovery of the cave was linked to the nearby rock church at Scharzfeld. In the cave-like rock church it is said that in heathen times there lived an old and wise woman who helped people in search of for advice. One day she was driven away by a monk in a black habit in the company of Frankish warriors. A unicorn was supposed to have protected her from her pursuers. The woman joined the witches' community on the Witches' Dance Floor on the Brocken mountain. Thereafter the black monk disappeared into a hole in the ground which led to the discovery of the Unicorn Cave. In fact the cave had been known about since the Stone Age and had never been forgotten.
'The woman joined the witches' community on the Witches' Dance Floor on the Brocken mountain'.
even if it works it remains impractical as fuck in most use cases other than a fun toy for the rich.
it's still far more efficient for search and rescue operations to simply use a helicopter with a whole team in it than a fumbly awkward bone breaker.
I'm not even gonna go into how much of a joke this would be in a military setting.

You're right, but then again, it's prototypes and trials.
Who, then, saw this:
Spoiler:
was saying "of course it's just a beginning". Most people were probably like "cool, but you'll never catch me alive near one of those death traps for rich crazies"
All the while, with hindsight 20/20, now recognizing that the following was an obvious, forseable development :
Spoiler:
I chose to find it pretty enthralling and encouraging
I don't think one can compare the two, especially in terms of practical use which is what I was mainly focused on. As far as I'm concerned they're more of a hazard than they're worth in most uses. Otherwise we'd have seen far more big gov R&D money spent on them already.
