Was this due to being rushed or did they just have poor ideas from the start?
Looks like both. The game looked meh to me from the very first reveal, but I didn't expect it to be this terrible.
this, dunno what people expect from yet fucking another coop l4d clone made for no reason, by company which didnt make any multiplayer game in its fucking history rotfl + childish artstyle + niggerish afro characters + straight to GP crap. it is what it is - netflixiation of gaming.
big companies never learn - 90% of pubg clones were a commercial failure so they are now trying to copy another "trend" - how many fucking games like that can players buy and or actively play.

Well that's the plan, wait for someone to innovate then clone it. PUBG was a 7 year old ARMA mod. It's extremely difficult to break into an existing market though if a popular game is already coasting occupying it. It can be done but requires extreme investment and marketing, Valorant seems fairly successful at taking on CS as an example.
This is a really confusing release from Arcane, there's definitely money to be had in 4p co-op L4D clone - but it needs a limited budget relatively short dev cycle, release it, support and DLC it for a few months and walk away.. like those war-hammer games.
I don't think many studio's are capable of doing the kind of innovative AI and Mechanics Valve released in L4D, also if the customer doesn't ask/care why bother.
Yet If you want player retention, and to grow and milk a player-base your going to have to innovate - it needs base building/survival sandbox or something. Deep Rock Galactic comes to mind. A reason to keep coming back and play, because after see'ing the map, killing 3 varients of vampire.. why else am i going to fire this game up.
As well as the broken AI and plethora of other technical issues, I think one of the main problems is the poor implementation for solo play. I can imagine it being a better game in 2-4 player coop and that’s probably how it was meant to be which is why the the single player aspect just feels like a very late afterthought to me. I doubt they will drop the single player but I think they could rework it and improve the narrative experience to be more in line with what we expect from an Arkane game.
Given the fact it’s their first open world game as well as upto 4 player coop as well, it was also probably too ambitious and they needed a lot more time for it. Underneath the mountain of problems I think there is a good game but for the time being the potential is somewhat buried and ‘what could have been’ is all I keep thinking and it will probably be that way for a while yet.
Hopefully Redfall gets it’s ‘No Man’s Sky’ redemption in a year or two and it will be the game we were meant to get at launch. You have to wonder if Gollum is going to be the next game to go the same way lol
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Anyone figure out how to get the arrow keys to work in Redfall instead of WSAD. I can change to arrow, but left and right make you turn instead of strafe left/right?
I'm sure quite often it's shitty corporate leadership that's responsible for fucking games but lately I see more and more stuff that points directly at straight up not very good or even incompetent developers.
I guess it doesn't matter if you have 400 people working on a game if they all suck at their jobs and are just there for a paycheck.
Get a john carmack style person in there and they'll work miracles but throw a hundred average programmers at a problem and you'll just end up with a terrible mess
Definitely disappointed that microsoft still hasn't learned it's lesson.
They kept thinking Xbox One lost because their performance was inferior to PS4 so they fixed that with Series X (in theory in anyway) but it was always about the games.
There's just barely any quality to be found in microsoft's exclusive games, they all seem like third party rushjobs, except I guess Gears and Forza which are mostly at the level I'd expect.
like wtf are they doing? lol

I'd say that modern indie developers still carry the torch, and that some A or AA games from the big studios can still surprise sometimes.
Coincidence or not, the ones IMO finding the most success lately are eastern/yurop ones, shit PC ports aside.
