yay i can play Red Orchestra for a few days now PROViSiON have released it, killing krauts will keep me busy, but damn i hope oblivion comes out today..

Alos noted that morrowind was scene released the same day it hit the shops, seems like Bethesda value their games a bit more than M$, o well..

All I know is that pic makes me want to get a PSP..

To stay on-topic, no scans yet of the strategy guide? It's 368 pages or so, so it'd be a good read while waiting Wink

Well I'd of course skip all the quest related spoilers etc., but would be nice to read all that stuff about skills etc. Like I said, to pass the time.

Guess I'll just wait 'til some sucker bothers to scan all those pages Very Happy

I don't want to be pessimistic but since Bethesda has well protected their "baby" , i don't think we'll play Oblibion during this week end Crying or Very sad

Has someone preordered and received the official guide ? Some info about it could keep us busy until the release Very Happy .

Other thing u can do : grab the speedtree demo there an run it :
http://www.speedtree.com/html/downloads_exe.htm
It is part of the 3d engine used by Oblivion to render the outdoor environement . I'm wondering if this could be useful to know if u have framerate issues with ur rig Confused . I'll test it this evening btw.

It won't tell you much, since it's an integral part from the Oblivion engine. It only helps the engine to create trees so they will look more realistic. The rendering is done by the engine itself, so only when you'll play the game itself will you be able to really test your rig.

Maybe u kill the quest mobs before u have even heard abotu them..which u will later in game..but liek i said the quest will be invalid because u already slain the mob

do u think we could compare the dungeon scene fps in 3dmark 2005 to the similar scene in oblivion just to get a rough idea of how it will run?

Maybe we can post fps of that test to see

I doubt it, i think the quest-specific mobs and items only spawn once you accept the quest, otherwise it would quickly become very very confusing if you have 15 quests that are partly done without you ever knowing about it.

For example imagine if a quest is about killing a dude and stealing his weapon, if you killed him 10 hours ago while being chased by wolves or something, and his weapon now lay behind a rock in thegrass a few kilometers away from his cave.... That would get pretty frustrating once you realize it was a quest and u gotta find the loot again. Laughing
So i doubt it will be like that.

Found this and apparently it gives you an idea of the size and scale of the game world and its much talked about 16 square miles.

About killing quest-related NPC's before getting the quest:

Quest-related NPC's didn't spawn when you got the quest in Mw, they were there from the start (at least in the majority of cases) so I don't see why Oblivion would be any different.

Nice one, headshot. In-game the size will feel even bigger, Oblivion is, after all about 1.5x the size of Morrowind, and Mw had a lot of water whereas Oblivion will be mostly land areas.

EDIT:

Btw., the 16 sq. miles doesn't even include the 200+ dungeons and the Oblivion realms (not sure about Cities, since they will load in separate cells, so they might be excluded as well) in the game, some of the caves etc. are reportedly pretty damn huge this time.

Yeah, Oblivion gateS are part of the main quest, they'll pop up everywhere Very Happy.

They'll be sort of pocket-realms, someone with the strat. guide said that they won't all look the same either, some are those generic diablo-ripoff Hell-realms while others are these Heaven-like enchanted forests. Sounds really sweet.
