everyone is up in arms about this guy charging for mods, but in this particular case RDR2 is actually littered with this garbage where at least half of the mods require you to shell out.
the sooner this sort of shit dies out the better.
hopefully the upcoming starfield doesn't end up infected with people clambering to make a buck instead of modders with decency.

I think that modders should be rewarded for they work, talent, ability to improve gamers' experience.
Probably this guys' way is not the best way to cash in rewards for your work (from the user's pov), but something else should / could be implemented. And no, Nexus's way is far too primitive.

It flew right past you, because you - like many among us - take things for granted.
But that's okay.
Imagine saying "thanks" to modders, in an optional, fast, easy way, via a tip (even 0.10 USD) because you fucking enjoy the fruits of their labor. (and again, Nexus is not the solution for this)
Hm? Better?

i don't take modding for granted because i've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours modding myself, but fucked if i am taking someone elses game and printing money from it for EZ bucks. i certainly don't want to see penny pinching infect modding or contribute to that mindset.
i also don't have any particular beef with asking for donations honestly, but once you start digging into reselling other peoples work with some shit slapped on it and in this case selling nvidia's own technology back to gamers like you are doing them some huge favor.. fuck that.
couple that with doubling down and adding some batshit DRM on your mod, i'm not too happy about that even if it doesn't directly affect me (i'm AMD ), because this sort of shit affects the health of the modding community at large.
if you need money to make mods, what you need is a real job, not another way to skim another dollar off hobbyist gamers.

I get 200 euro/month from Nexus, i think that's great, for me it's a lot of money, it basically pays for food for 1 month.
I did purchase some RDR2 mods recently actually. One was just a list of mods, so not exactly what i thought it was. I do understand that it takes time to put a mod list together, buuut... Wasn't that useful for me, maybe saved me some time. i guess.
Another one was that RTGI shader. it looks rather good but i noticed visual errors with fog for example. Ended up not using it. Kind of expensive and really overrated.
Then i purchased LehZan reshade preset, the recent version looks great. worth the money for me.
It seems to be a thing mostly for GTA and RDR to have Patreon for mods. I remember way back in the days that people also profited of Sims 2 mods.

Patreon sucks because there's no 1 place where you can find everyone. After Nexus told modders their files would always be archived (for collections), they splintered off into dozens of different Discord channels, patreons and whatever else, and suddenly you don't know where to look. |
Patreon is far from practical and Nexus is just... basic. Actually, Nexus - with their 'new' website - is pretty average. It's main 'win' is that it's been here since... forever.
There are better ways to manage this: more transparency, more visibility, more appreciation, better feed-back, better communication.
Pay me and I'll do it. It's in my line of work.
SPOILER:
Nexus is 95% mods and 5% modders. You need a platform that is 50% modders and 50% mods, if you want to reward modders properly.
I know how to do it. If anyone is interesed, give me a shout.
It's a lot of work, but it's so damn satisfying knowing that people will be rewarded for their time, work and dedication...

how do you mean 5% modders? who makes the 95% mods if not modders?

It's the visibility and visual communication. It can be improved on Nexus massively.

i still don't understand. How would you make modders more visible, and what would they even gain from it? I deal with daily interactions with people on my mod pages.

They would gain more visibility.
It's a UI/UX thing, and how one uses content (visual) hierarchy to designate priorities on your website / platform.

I know.
It wasn't, but it should have been / be.

It's okay to not see the opportunities here.
Other people do / will do.

if you think there is an actual opportunity, then maybe you should act on it.
modding websites are a dime a dozen and many have come and gone for a variety of reasons. but nexus is one of the few that are still here.
you'd be hard pressed to replace the nexus honestly. either way i'm sure they will get a new coat of paint eventually.

You are right. Even thinking about it atm.
A mix of... multiple solutions / platforms. It's doable, but it's insane also...
It's a massive endeavor (a place where developers + modders + players come together). No such thing doing this properly atm.

I decided to try the Switch version of RDR1 using the Switch emulator and it runs great. No issues or glitches, runs at an unlocked frame rate and performs better than the xbox/PS3 emulator, and also isn't hard to control with mouse and keyboard with the right settings(my DS4 died recently.)
Give it a shot if you want to play RDR1 on PC.
Red.Dead.Redemption.v1.0.1.MULTi10.NSW.for.PC.REPACK-KaOs is the version I'm using.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
