Almost 3 years (THREE YEARS!) after the official '1.0' launch (10 December 2020)... the game seems to be completed / full featured / fixed / finished / polished...
Wonder how long Baldur's Gate 3 will take.

A good thing: DLSS 3.5 will be available to 'all' RTX nV cards, 2xxx included.
I guess green team said: fuck it, no one's buying the 4xxx series, give the poor men with 3090 Ti some joy!

This game if any was way too rushed. Battlefield 2042 is another one etc. Pandemic did it thing and publishers wanted income to continue regardless of games' shapes. Gladly the situation is improving year by year.

It is weird though since Nvidia still show that you need a 40 series for the full DLSS 3.5 on their chart since Frame Generation is what was specific to the 40 series. They are just enabling the Ray Reconstruction for all RTX cards so not sure if 3.5 will make a big difference since all non 40 series cards are still missing a big component of the full DLSS 3.5.

Hmm yea it might seem like that but that's mostly because of Nivida's horrible naming scheme for those technologies
DLSS1&2 were upscaling technologies, they released their frame generation technology as DLSS3 while DLSS2 as upscaling was still it's own thing.
Ofc the version numbering for the upscaling part went from 2.5.x to 3.x and now it's just "DLSS3" as well
now they're adding an AI based denoiser and just calling it DLSS 3.5, so seperate technologies now get all the same name so "DLSS" as a feature seems more impressive and more likely "better than FSR"
if they released hairworks today they'd call it DLSS 3.6
but ofc it's nonsense because DLSS means deep learning super sampling
framegen should have never been DLSS3, and a denoiser certainly isn't DLSS 3.5, they're even different libraries
but fuck it, guess DLSS is the better marketing term because "number goes up"
whereas AMD is still on FSR2 - yea. just two. how bad.
so it's not about throwing old GPU users a bone. it's more the fact that the new denoiser will flawlessly run on the older GPUs whereas framegen still needs the beefier optical accelerator and tensor cores of the 40 series (and potentially that extra thicc cache)
but those technologies basically have not much in common except having machine learned black boxes at their core

Green team did not say fuck it, frame generation requires the "optical flow" chip that is only on RTX 4xxx series, DLSS itself works on tensor cores, so it will work with every RTX card. 3090ti owners will be fucked with full ray tracing without frame generation.
The uplift for Blackwell, which will now come in 2025 will be more modest than Lovelace had. 4090 had a 2 node jump over Ampere, thats why the peformance is so great. It wont be the case from now on. And they're reaching the limits to how much they can shrink nodes. Anyway, a 4090 bought at launch will end up a good deal in the long run because of this. Kinda how 2080TI ended up. It was a clown of a card in 2018. But here we are, 5 years later, it has more vram than 3080, it has DLSS, it has ray tracing support, it runs games excelent, its stronger than both consoles. It's gonna be a 10 year card, this one. Who would have guessed this back in 18
I didn't watch the whole thing, but the only thing I wanted to see out of that, was the AI chasing you
If you look in your rear view mirror in the base game when racing, the AI is doing all sorts of mental shit. Crashing off the road, flipping, running into objects. Then they suddenly reset to be put back on the road. There's no real AI driving them, it's just a bunch of checks to make sure they return to 'chasing' you after inevitably fucking up after a few seconds.
tl;dr, I hope there is actually chase / driving AI now, not just more of the above
Good call on that one ; I expect that they didn't solve this whatsoever and that the car-driving AI completely remains on-rail and won't be "driving" vehicles in any way.
Would require completely rewriting their stuff for anything that involves vehicles, which I strongly suspect they didn't feel like dealing with.
I'm pretty sure they would have advertised the feature if it was coming up.
Some might look past this issue, but it's a huge immersion breaker for me - 20 years old games could pull it off even if it was for small active areas, if this hugely demanding game can't pull it off, even in a restricted area.. someone didn't think things through properly (a lot of people didn't think much during this game's development apparently )
Frankly speaking.. all of this required 3 full years (not counting the DLC which probably had its own dedicated team separate from the patches one) ? It's disappointing as fuck. Feels more like a glorified mod collection than anything else.

So, let's pick the Hump's collective brain, do you guys think it would be best to start a new playthrough with all these upcoming changes (+story dlc)?
