I guess I figured it out, and the handler I think says something in regards to it, but the game made it clear enough for me what's going on.
Like I saw I was not doing much damage at all, but there was another bar. Once that bar filled up it was staggered and I did massive damage for a short time.
Seeing that I knew that I had to focus on the stagger bar first, which I did, which taught me how it goes back down if you don't attack so sustained attacks are important to make sure the bar keeps going up.
There may also be a Sekiro style mechanic where it goes up easier the lower the enemy HP is.
A little bit after that you get a tutorial mission that explicitly states all of this and more (like that explosive weapons add more *sustained* stagger that doesn't drop as fast)

not just japanese ones, but yeah this one is part of the reason i can't be fucked pressing the buy button on AC6 so far.
boss battles look like something out of dark souls and staggering mechanics on machines don't jive with me at all.

I think it's great and one of the best additions to the AC formula in this game.
satisfying in the audiovisual department, and it gives purpose to playing offensively and tactically choosing when to hang back and when to charge in and all that, also gives different weapons more reasons to be used depending on the situation
and you don't have to deal with it all the time since all the small enemies just die anyway and there's no need to consider their stagger bar or whatever.
Like who cares that lots of games use it. Maybe that's because it's good?
Like parry... or jumping.
Imo without stagger it's too easy to whittle shit down from range and stuff like that.
It's clearly well thought out game design and not just "lets throw this in because it's popular" or whatever.
It gives a natural "flow" to the gameplay and good times to use powerful slow weapons as you stop the enemy from moving as well.

goes down quicker than one might think if you time it well and go all out when he staggers, including a double or charged melee attack :D

I have constant 100 fps (locked in the Nvidia control panel) at max graphics with the adaptive fps option disabled.
Not even a hint of a stutter (unlike Elden Ring) or fps drop thus far and I've done 3 missions.

Works PERFECTLY.
I honestly couldn't be more happy with the implementation, I haven't even rebinded anything (only thing I've done is turn down mouse sensitivity to "2"), I always prefer playing games with K/M.
It just feels more immersive to me.
No mouse acceleration that I can tell, all the keybinds feel intuitive, the mouse aiming works perfectly (you can even disable some of the auto aim stuff going on by just clicking middle mouse button).
I HIGHLY recommend using K/M for this game.
It almost feels like the game was built to be used with K/M.
Although I've only beaten 3 missions so maybe it gets more difficult with more tools later, no idea but I doubt it.
I'm reading on Steam forums and reddit that people are having huge difficulties beating the first boss (in the opening tutorial level).
I beat it first try, it was extremely easy due to how snappy I can be with the mouse camera movement.

As for the game itself, I'm loving it.
It's my first Armored Core game (but I've seen playthroughs of all the other ones leading up to this release). |
Thanks! Just grabbed it!
Probably the first big game in a bit that doesn't have performance issues

The gameplay and mechanics look tight as all hell, but the actual game itself doesn't look good to me. Maps look empty and like something from years ago. Kinda just looks like a low budget game. I'll still try it either on sale or cracl'd version.

The graphics and physics when stuff breaks looks quite terrible (or at least old), it does not deserve the praise for graphics that i've seen, it's weird to me. The trees are especially laughable. I do understand that the epic backdrops looks cool to people (and i would agree), but it's not the same as having "incredible graphics".
It has style though, it does nail the industrial look its going for.
edit:
Having so many controller (xbox) issues with this game. Unless you have Steam running the controller doesn't even work, only a few of the buttons. Steam acts as a rebinder from keys to the controller it seems. But it does so much shit, makes some combo go from full-screen to window, records stuff, starts some on-screen keyboard if a certain button is pressed..
it's a total mess and not really usable for serious playing.
(Probably gonna play it on PS5 anyways, just wanted to try it out on PC)
Edit: doesn't work with PS5 controller at all btw, at least not in Windows 11. right controller does not respond apart from in the menus.
Could be a shit crack too, no idea.

Balteus is such a nonsense difficulty spike...
Most of the game up to him has been fairly easy and then bam hits you over the head with this bs, then goes back to easy mode .....

I found most bosses so far pretty challenging and balteus did not particularly stand out in terms of difficulty to me.
as usual it depends on your experience, your skill, your build and your playstyle how difficult stuff is
easy for you, difficult for someone else, and the other way around.

I’m not a From Soft champ by any accounts but any tips for Balteus? The best I can do is knock him down to 25% health. The barrage of missiles is insane and goddamn those 2nd phase flame attacks! :/
May the NFOrce be with you always.

hmm not sure what gear I was using exactly since I experiment a lot on bosses.
I do think I was going in pretty close first phase, the missiles often just go past you if you're close enough. then second phase I was in the air a lot, medium range.
allows for avoiding the fire attacks
what did you use the OS upgrade chips on? I grabbed that one plasma shockwave skill that was shown in the trailer (electrical explosion like thingy) and when I used it while on top of him it did massive damage to the his shield which probably helped quite a bit.

yeah love the enviroments. so cool. also the mechs and the painting stuff with the wear and tear and the different types of surfaces, looks extremely good even from a technical standpoint I think, not just art direction.
but also would love some other structure to it all. the mission structure is fine, and it's classic AC, but I just wonder what else could be done with it to make it more interesting if we get more AC games (which I sure hope for!)
like not just open world or anything, just something to spice it up more, give some variety, maybe exploration of some kind.
exploring new regions before you go do missions there or whatever
when I saw that one AC in the first trailer pick up salvage in a wasteland I actually thought there was gonna be like exploration missions inbetween the battles where you just go around a large area looking for parts and such
I wonder if they'll do a standalone expansion AC game for this like they've done in the past, building on this core (which is pretty great for a first try at modern AC I think)

Only thing I changed when I won is that I got terminal armor, but it didn't even get to the point to where I triggered it, honestly just be patient if you have a slow rate of fire gun like me and just hope for good RNG? No but really be patient until you take the shield off then try to stagger him again before the shield reactivation, I was using the laser blade and that charged attack does a good chunk when he's staggered. I guess I got lucky with him not using his blades much or the aoe fire bs, but I'm not sure if that was cause I just took him down faster or just good rng.

This game for me, is why demos need to continue to exist. If I played that first mission a month ago, I would have preordered it.
Yesterday, I acquired the game. I played 1 hour and fell in love then actually bought it.
Put out a great game and it will (SHOULD!) sell.

Yeah, demos are good. Glad i could try the PC version first because i'm now totally sold on using mouse/keyb. I've purchased for PC now (instead of PS5 which i was going for first)...
@Surray i've heard there are bigger levels with exploration, and exploration is needed to find parts, hidden encounters.
There's 59, i think i read, missions in total, which is quite a lot, but sure, some of these are really short.

I was curious to try out a From title that isn't Souls-related so I gave this isoCore rev. 6 a whirl for some hours (a first for me). While I prefer the immersive pseudo-sim-like approach of the ol' Mechwarriors, the game is certainly competent at what it does. The arcade formula with its short missions and the little exploration involved is rather sterile, but the slick art direction along with the soundtrack and surprisingly responsive M&KB controls make the act of floating 'n pewing around feel effortless.
The burly bosses are essentially what the game is all about, and they're well-designed as one would expect from the Frompeople. I'll keep playing since it's been an alright time-wasting ride thus far. Still waiting for the real deal though, the one that starts with Blood and ends with
