How is it in sp? How good bad is the story?
Is it content complete?(campaign/story wise)
Whats the eta for release? |
The presentation/production value is lacking, despite their best attempts to improve it. It's better than it used to be in many areas, but don't expect too much.
The singleplayer has always been pretty cool. The story has a nice premise, but I think they could have used some characters a bit more.
I doubt the story is complete and the endgame content is definitely not complete. I'm close to the point where the story stopped when I used to play it regularly, I'll update this if there's more now. LE: The story continues past that point.
No idea about the release. There are 4 subclasses missing as of right now, the factions are missing as well.

It's ok but development is extremely slow bordering on project won't finish levels. Also itemization is completely broken last I saw about 6mo ago.
There are utub vids doing the hardest content in the game naked and still being immortal doing crazy damage. Then that's how some people like games.

I finished the current story. It's still incomplete, there's probably plenty left to add considering the Ancient Era has no story missions yet.

Acolyte currently which I’ll roll into necro when the time comes. This will be a good distraction until d4 goes live at least.

hmm it is always worrying to me if a game in EA is putting almost no updates out but didnt they put the mp update out just recently?
Anyhow taking everything written here into consideration I guess I will wait for a sale.

They delayed the updates for a while to release a big update which includes the multiplayer.

I haven't played this since last summer so looking forward to trying it again. I did play Wolcen last night and there's something about it that just isn't right. Idk if it's the lack of secondary skills (haven't figured out how to get more) or the way it's presented. Idk, something about that game that's off. I do remember playing this game early on in EA and it was a blast. I had so much fun clearing out areas until the end of Act 1 but then the devs made changes that just didn't feel fun any longer. At least with Last Epoch, the game is just fun.

ingame cosmetics shop beta
seems like people are loosing their minds over it since its a little bit expensive and the items seem to be planned as seasonal only so you either buy them at the season you are at or loose the opportunity (FOMO)
Well tbh idont care about cosmetics shop, devs gotta eat i guess.
Still waiting for a last epoch sale though.

But those are seasonal packs like in Path of Exile. This doesn't make the whole store seasonal.

It's a $50 game in my country. What are they eating, fabergé eggs?
I have had this game on my wishlist for so long, but every time I check on it there's some new drama. Or it's bugged in some ridiculous way. If they want more money they should focus on getting the game out of early access (strange idea, huh) and then give meaty updates, DLC or expansions. It's not F2P, so there's no excuse. Put the work in. Add value and the money will keep rolling in.
When did it become that everyone needs to continually earn money from a product from now until for ever, with minimal effort? Fuck me, there are some greedy cunts out there.

diablo is a 70 dollar game where you got cosmetics, a battlepass , premium early acceaa editions etc.
this is a small dev that has a great game even though bugged its srill early access. devs might run out od money especially if its their first project.
remind me for how long is blizz doing arpgs and its still so bugged that it destroys a whole gpu series and has bad classbalance.
"add value and the money will keep rolling" is easier sad than done esp. if its their first project.

What does Diablo have to do with what these guys are doing? When Diablo 1 came out, they didn't have unlimited streams of revenue. They did the hard yards, and decades on they have a world renown series of products because of it. They deserve what they have now, and if they decide to fuck it up at this point, that's their business.
Blizzard have been through this almost exact scenario with D3. A lesson these new devs should have learned for for free.
The small dev team for Last Epoch (as if that should have anything to do with it) had a successful Kickstarter, they charge near AAA prices (in my country, at least), and now they're pulling this shit before the game even makes it out of early access. If they run out of money, then they made bad decisions. It's the way of the world, no sympathy.
And the way they're using their own currency makes it seem very anti-consumer. As if doing this was the only option for them. How about putting the game on sale more frequently, at lower prices?
It's not even worth arguing about, the player base has already made their feelings clear and I hope they remove this garbage before they squander whatever goodwill is left.

yeah in 1984 pacman didnt have skinpacks either.
so size of the devs doesnt matter but blizz gets a free pass because they ve "earned it."
path of exile has a skinshop as well. if they wouldnt the game wouldnt be constantly worked on for 10 years. maybe they are aiming for something similar. dont like it dont buy it i guess.

1984 didn't have Kickstarter, or game engine technology readily available at everyone's fingertips, or the internet to answer all of your questions, or decades worth of game development examples to look back on, or an industry that was worth ~$380 billion dollars etc etc etc
In what decade would you rather be developing a game?
Your arguments in defense of all this are weak

Personally if it were my game, I would charge:
- $60 base game
- Multiple DLC, most likely include the actual ending of the game in one of the DLC and i'll predatory price it so its like $30 for endgame DLC, but $45 for endgame DLC with other useless DLC included.
- Skin shop, yes sir.
- Battle Pass whatever these are.. I would include 50% of available DLC and omit the game ending DLC so you need to pay for that on top.
- If it's online only i'd include "prime", "premium pass" whatever where you pay me monthly for something of little value (maybe a couple of shitty skins each month).
Then after a year or two, I'd release a "sequel" which basically re-uses all the same assets, no engine upgrade, includes all the maps from the first game as well so all my customers pay me again for the same game. Players that own the first game won't be able to cross-play with gamers that own the Sequel as well to ensure max derp purchases
Also after we are at iteration of "BS Game 4", my next release will just start again in naming convention.. "BS Game" it will not be a reboot or remake, I guess we call this a "reset" now.
^^^ 2023 Gamers and some users here are happy to pay all this stuff and defend me as a developer.. absolutely deserve this stuff.

so its okay for all ther games but this one.
as i said you can always skip it
I'd rather take my chances and buy the game only pay the premium price and ignore all the cosmetics and get a game franchise out of it.

Quote: | Travelers,
I’m thrilled to announce that Eleventh Hour Games is launching the long-awaited 1.0 version of Last Epoch on February 21st, 2024. After a journey that started with the dream of uniting genre enthusiasts to create the next great ARPG and forming an after-hours team through Reddit, to holding a successful Kickstarter 18 months later, and then building Last Epoch alongside our passionate community throughout Early Access… we’re confident in saying that we’ve made something truly special.
Last Epoch’s 1.0 launchwill mark a new beginning for Eterra, and will set a new bar for quality, polish, gameplay feel, and visual excellence. Beyond 1.0, Eleventh Hour Games will bring substantial new content to Last Epoch every few months in what we call “Cycles”. These releases will contain additions and refinements to many aspects of the game, such as end-game content, skills, unique items, gameplay systems, quality-of-life features, etc.
We understand that February is later than we had initially targeted for this release; however, our original December timeline became a bit crowded with other studios’ releases, and we didn’t want to force the ARPG community to have to choose. By moving our date, we’ll also be able to take advantage of a few more months of polish for our new systems and classes, complete more bug-fixing, and reinforce our team with a restful and well-deserved holiday break.
We thank you all for your unwavering support and enthusiasm that has allowed Eleventh Hour Games to make this game for all of us. We hope you will join us in Eterra this February and invite your friends to join in a new co-op hack-and-slash experience!
- Judd Cobler
Game Director, Last Epoch |
