Can you finish the game by only playing Alan Wake's sections? Or will I be forced to play the last half of the game through the shit part if I only play his chapters?

Nope. There is Alan's route and there is Saga's route. Both need to be completed. No clue if there are any roadblocks that force you to switch though. I only switched when i wanted to

Well, he's not wrong even if he's exaggerating a bit. Even if it's not magnificent, the way the story is told and it's production value keeps one enthralled. And then you find it not so very good once all is said and done.

The narration / narrator goes on and on and on... saying the SAME DAMN things, repeating the SAME DAMN idea(s) over and over and over and over...

"It wasn't clear the first 24 times I've said it? Here, let me explain again!"

Open a door, it's locked, get a key, but key is in a room with a lockpad, the lockpad needs a code. Solve a puzzle to get the code, open the door, but now the power is out, go look for a fuse in the basement, inside another room, look for a secret passageway, got the fuse - but now you need to power up the generator. Okay lights are back, go back all the way to the initial door. Open the door, get the thingamajig.

Repeat for 10 hours Laughing Remedy should stop pretending they are in the game business and make TV shows already

To be honest when I see a lock or or lockpad I just Google for the code because fuck that shit. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I didn't google any at all, all of the chest puzzles have the answer right in your face next to the chest. Takes me a few single minutes max to figure it out if not on the spot. Just look around the chest.

my favorite moment so far:

This Alan Wake 2 Cult Stash has a math puzzle (and we all know how everyone hates math). Here's the math problem: "There are three batteries (B1, B2, and B3) which have a combined charge of 1,600 amps. B2 has 128 amps more than B3. Meanwhile, B1 has two times as much charge as B3. How many amps does B2 have?"

Yeah screw that Laughing Ain't got time to sit there thinking about that for long

Indeed, x+x+128+2x=1600 is a hell of a math problem Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Literally solved it in my head when I encountered it.

I thought Scandinavian education system was decent?

Hard or not they completely didn't fit the otherwise super serious gameplay. Like, for some padlocks I need a key, for some a code, others can be cut with bolt cutters. But once you acquire bolt cutters you still can't open padlocks that require keys.

Yeah and you want me to believe rednecks owning a gift shop keep rotating the code to a safe often? And that code is a puzzle requiring you to count number of coffee beans on employee photos? Give me a fucking break Laughing (that's a real example)

Don't get me started on inability to shoot those padlocks, especially after devs acknowledge the fact you could bruteforce some of them with cutters Mad

Not only that. You had to figure out what exactly their position was based on a vague-ish description

This is the very first Remedy game, where the story simply doesn't click with me.

I loved Control. I loved Quantum Break also.

But I feel AW II is too meta and too self-referential. Self-indulgent. It is convulated for the sake of being convulated.

I understand the Matrix paraphrases (I love the matrix, btw), but why are they in there to begin with?

I don't find the game's narrative strong enough to be honest. It's not smart. It's smartASS.

This is an adventure game, what gameplay ? Aim and shoot once an hour ? You mean that gameplay ?

Gameplay is frustrating. Enemies are not difficult. Uber-low FOV is difficult.

Visually the game looks great, but it is a design decision to make things hard to read in combat. You fight the camera and the controls, not the enemies.

Pretty much every 3rd person horror game has shit FOV, I find Alan Wake to be better than average on that. As for the camera and controls... I don't see the difficulty, but I dunno, maybe you play on controller and it's worse then?

FOV can be changed in appdata/local/Remedy/Alan Wake 2/ renderer.ini The setting is already there, just not exposed in the game menu for some reason. Im using 1.2, from the default 1

Alternatively, there's also Flawlesswidescreen which has just added the AW2 Plugin with an FOV slider (as well as one for the LOD)

I'm still at the very beginning and basically only tested the performance for shits and giggles - as expected, the cutting-edge path-y rays are extremely taxing and maintaining >60fps with the i7-13700k/4070/32GB DDR5 is practically impossible. Standard raytracing is doable without murdering the framerate/frame pacing, though that sweet high framerate of the non-RT version is too enticing to pass up Razz
