FF12 can be set up to play itself, FF13 almost plays itself, 14's a generic MMO and 15 is atrocious. Haven't played 16 yet, but the above sounds about right
Agreed! As much as I initially disliked the linearity of FFX back when it first arrived on PS2, going back to it, it feels like a much better game than anything they've recently released
Thankfully there are other modern, turn based JRPGs with good combat and decent (still pretty cringey) stories
Persona 3/4/5, Octopath I & II, Dragon Quest, Yakuza: Like a dragon, Chained Echoes etc etc. I've been getting through them on my Deck, and all of this shit about turn based being dead is nonsense.
Bought a PS5 for this shit, haven't touched it in more than a month.
People claim the writing is amazing, but to me it seems like someone watched GOT, really liked it, and decided to write fanfiction.
Gameplay is tedious. No point to exploration, combat is a snoozefest, and boss fights are just cinematic QTEs that have too much visual effects that I can't see what's going on.
I finished the game and enjoyed it.
Despite the alternative approach with Eikons I think I prefer the classic summons.
I’ll play the game some more for paid DLC though.
I heard they weren’t happy with the sales so I guess a PC version would make them more money
TBH almost played all FF games. Still got FF Crisis core, Stranger of paradise and World of Final Fantasy to finish but im not hyped about this one. I'd rather would like FF rebirth earlier.
I absolutely love 16. Best graphics for next-gen only game and the game is really good. It's just not much of an rpg.
But at least it's not a bloated rebirth minigames galore

Game is fine, thought I would love it more. Definitely worth a play, but definitely skip all the "normal" side missions, only do those with a + sign, those enhance stuff. Doing side content really wore me out at the end.
