Not sure which rotten potato brained Slavic fuck on Owlcats team was in charge of the space combat, but yea, fuck that moron. Chiefly, his decision to always allow the entire enemy fleet to go first.

I'm in a scenario where I immediately rushed to the aid of one of my ships (one jump away), but the enemy fleet of 5 ships always gets to go first, so by the time I get to take MY FIRST FUCKING TURN, the ship I'm supposed to save is at 30% health. This is on normal difficulty. Absolutely unwinnable.

So what's the general rating of this game?

As good as BG3?
As good as other pathfinder CRPGs?
About as good as that Solasta CRPG?
As good as that game this year Showgunners?

-> If not comparable to above mediocre?

For me it is the best by a lot, but I'm only a good way in to chapter 2 (mind you, my opinion on BG3 does not align with most people, in that I think that it is a mediocre crpg, and I dropped it fairly early on as I couldn't stand the writing), so I'm not sure how much that is worth.

There are a few issues, especially in combat. Sometimes it just hangs on an action and it takes a while to execute, line of sight is stupid sometimes. There's some dips in writing quality, but in my experience mostly on side content. Not a fan of the ship combat either.

I think you have to have some sort of affinity for the 40k lore to really get the most out of it. But so far the game really grabbed me. If I had the same free time I did decades ago, I'd maybe have it finished by now, but unfortunately most days I can only put in 2-3 hours max.

I'm still very early in the game, but so far I'd say it's as good as BG3, but it's just a different approach.

BG3 is very streamlined and targets a wide audience (fully voiced, cutscenes, etc), while Rogue Trader is more of a traditional RPG (a lot more text based).

Some might say the writing is better than BG3, but I find a lot of the dialogs pretty excessive, to be honest. Like reading a Stephen King book: 100 words to say something that could've been said in 10 Razz So quality wise it's still very far from Disco Elysium, imho..

Personally, I do prefer this kind of RPG over the Larian ones, with written dialogs & descriptions of characters and surroundings.

Can't compare it to Showgunners though. It's still a really great game, but not at all as deep as the other ones.

You haven't taken into account the universe and what that requires from the writing. The excessiveness is demanded by this over the top universe. In fact, one could argue that they are holding back on it as much as they can to make it a bit more grounded.

I normally don't like reading in games (especially not a lot) because I basically read all the time during my work, but in this game – man, I read every little bit I can find, and just can't get enough.

What was the versioning number on the patch so I know to skip it and wait for the next one - any idea? I'm so far in I'm not gonna risk my saves.

1.0.1

Truth be told, though, they have already fixed it – it was a laughably amateur error on their part.

Yeah, I was so fucking annoyed about this last night...

And honestly, the entirety of Chapter 3 is utter shite thus far. I had to throw role-playing out of the window because the things you are forced to do and say don't align with a dogmatic character at all.

Also, the plot twist is just a fucking mess.

Yep, Chapter 3 just went completely off the rails and ended up turning what, until that point, was an incredibly fun story and game experience into a confusing, monotonous fucking slog. I'm just waiting for it to end so that, hopefully, everything gets back on track afterwards.

^ same here, but I am worried the writing/story will continue to go downhill after chapter 3. It would be a bloody shame.

Also, it will be a loooong while before I replay the game (really wanted to do a scummy/heretic character as well, though), as I am definitely not looking forward to suffering through this bit again.

Haven't gotten there yet (just finished tutorial and started chp 1), but something similar happened to me with PF WotR when getting to the 4th chapter and the city you had to rotate the camera to get around in. Felt that chapter was such a slog it stopped me from replaying.

What a coincidence regarding the camera - it's the same thing here. Can't see shit because there's always stuff blocking the camera from above, and there's like at least two sub-levels to the ground. Laughing

Yeah, sometimes fighting against the camera is so damn annoying too. I have been putting up with is so far, but it's getting on my list of negatives.

Another annoyance is space battles. They are just boring time wasters, nothing more. I set the difficulty to easy, as I cba to actually fuck around with them, but I really wish there was a "speed up turns" button or option.

Not on my end. New ones are added, though.

Finally managed to suffer through the utter shit slog that was chapter 3. I literally couldn't wait for it to end, and was quite pissed off when I had to return to a previous location because I hadn't searched it thoroughly, and so I was unable to progress. Also, the final fight there is a big f u.

Also, miraculously, Idira is back on my voidship's bridge after being absent from chapter 3 altogether, and she acts as if nothing had happened... way to break immersion.

Anyway, hopefully the writing and the story picks up again. The bugs certainly have, my RT moves around on the voidship in a sitting position... like he's in an invisible wheelchair.

Saw in a review mentioned that chapter 3 is very weak, but it gets good again later.

What are your teams like? I ditched Idira as soon as I got to Heinrix Laughing

Almost the same here, except that my RT is a Commissar Officer / Strategist (a dogmatic one due to role-playing), and I developed Cas to be a Grand Tactician. Instead of Yrliet, whom I did not recruit (she's a filthy xeno!), I run either Heinrix (assassin) or the Space Marine. I also have Idria in sometimes, she's (surprisingly, but I didn't know what I was doing Very Happy) a bounty hunter.

I already know that on my next run (but only after the definitive edition is out in a year or so), I'm gonna play a sarcastic/indifferent/profit-oriented/power-hungry/heretic voidborn, either a psyker or of a crime lord background.

Re: chapter 4. I only just started it, and it's full of bugs. Had my first full-screen error message (saying KINGSMAKER...) and subsequent crash, as well as a bug that seemed to be game-breaking. It was related to one of the rumours (most of which seem broken, so careful with exploring them), but I eventually managed to fix it by loading an earleir save. The "sitting in an invisible wheelchair" bug still persists on the voidship, though...

The heavily changed

I like chapter 3, it puts you in a different situation where being a rogue trader means squat. The camera is a bit annoying.
