Oh shit!

I did an update of my SATA drivers and now my comp is screwed!

When my comp boots to desktop I get a minimized window called "JavaSATA RAID" and when I open it up it's a command window w/ a bunch of tech and says somehting about debug and then about 15 seconds later the comp restarts and it's on an endless loop.

I'm gonna say a prayer and try a repair install Sad

Edit-----------------

Repair failed. Sweet, now I get to reformat again. Grrrrrrrrrrrr............ Evil or Very Mad

WTF, what drivers did you install? The ones from Windows Update? Shocked

Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

repair? Windows XP usually makes a new restore point before installing a new driver. You could have used ERD Commander to go back to a previous restore point. But maybe the maxtor drive will work after the reinstall Smile

@mvvl1: nope, the maxtor drive will most certainly not show up in that list. Like i said, it's the same with my board, although my chipset is an intel 945g and an ite controller. But i've seen that many times at work Smile

@Kosmiq
Nope, that is a SATA RAID Utility from the SIL drivers. I had this same thing when I first wanted to use the SIL as a RAID0 controller (decided to use the NV controller for RAID0 eventually because of speed).
Anyway, got that same error with the Java thing (when u unpack that driver it's called "Install3114SATARAID.exe") but I did not have any problems removing it (when u do, Windows will install its own default driver). So I am curious as why TS has to reformat....

@whoKnows
I fiddled around with my SATA disks as promised above; swapped my RAID0 disks (Raptors) from the NV controller to the SIL and the standalone MaxLine III in the Nvidia. I then went into my BIOS, made sure the SIL controller was set to non-RAID, so indicating that it is just a SATA-controller with 2 disks and.......both Raptors were recognized in the HDD section of my BIOS!

So I have to disagree with "drives connected to 3rd party controllers don't show up in the HDD section"

Damn I suck.

I turn system restore off because it leeches my HD space...

In terms of the driver i installed, it was the "Install3114SATARAID.exe" but when I would boot up it would reset on a loop so I'm not sure how I would have got it off anyways.

@mvvl1
with the drives swapped around where they still all recognized in windows?

Can you boot into Safe mode? If so, remove the Java-thingie from your startup tab & reboot.

Yes, all 3 drives were visible in my BIOS.

Yup, I got lazy and never even tried booting into safemode so I'm working on loading my stuff back onto my reformatted comp again Razz

So they were all in BIOS but could you access all 3 of them from windows?

I did not boot into Windows, since I did not want to ruin my RAID0 setup.
However, some months ago one of the RAID-disks started to give me trouble. So I connected the drives as described in my earlier post (as single drives). Booting into XP went ok then.....

Is the next step for me to try and find some sort of hacked BIOS update w/ Sil stuff built into it?

Probably the last step you would wanna take. This config should work as it is...

Actually, I was still wondering if that RAID BIOS screen shows up when you boot up? This would appear right after you would see the normal BIOS-screen.....

Right now silicon image mode is set to 'SATA' so I do not see that screen.

If I change it to RAID then I see it.

Ok, that is correct. I am almost out of ideas. I do not understand why, if you hook up any of the disk to the SIL, the hard disk(s) are being recognized as "mirror", even if you have set the SIL setting to SATA instead of RAID.

-Maybe you could try hooking up the new disk to the SIL SATA connector no.1?
-Also, make sure that all "channels" in the HDD section (primary screen of the BIOS) are
set to auto detect. You can set those not used to Disabled later when all is working
(shortens bootup time)
-Any differences when you load your default BIOS settings?
-What happens if you connect all disk to the SIL?

- All drives are set to auto
- Hooked up all 3 drives to SIL spots and all showed up under 'Hard Disk Drives' exclusively

[02:60-0 ST3200826A]
[02:60-2 Maxtor 6Y1]
[02:60-3 Maxtor 6Y1]

Still no change in terms of windows functionality...

There a jumper setting or something that needs to be switched?
