Cut the price down to sane levels? Nah, let's add more useless fucking features that nobody asked for so we can justify the next price increase!

Useless features some people asked for*
I switched from 7900XTX (I kept it a week), to 4080 RTX JUST for the AI cuda cores.

Nvidia GeForce Experience and Control Panel is being retired. Instead we'll get Nvidia App. Nvidia App is available as public beta.

Quote:
In addition to its ever-improving graphics work and constant leaps in AI technology, Nvidia found time to update and modernize the software support it provides with its graphics cards. Nvidia’s GeForce Experience app has been available for quite some time now, and its Nvidia Control Panel goes back decades. But the graphics times, they are a-changin'.

Both familiar utilities are heading into retirement, with one new Nvidia app to rule them all—er, rule them both. We were able to preview the new app in a beta state ahead of its announcement to give you a detailed first look.

Good change I hope? Nvidia needed something. Criticism aside of either flavor. I feel AMD was miles ahead of nvidia on control/interface software.
If I could get an Nvidia card, with the AMD software (just the card controls and stat display..I never use the game/recording stuff in either) would be my ideal situation.

It would be fine, but finding profiles in the list is as horrible as ever. How difficult is it to have games in order based on the name?

Indeed, I've practically been using the good ol' Inspector for years because of the panel's obsolescence. I do like vintage things (like the Humps Cool Face), but that was a bit too much Razz

Here's hoping the new app will be an organic lean evolution of it rather than one of those modern congregations of junky features, Arr tee X banners and awesome buttons.

It's the only thing I dislike about having an Nvidia card.
16 core CPU with 64 gigs ram...and it takes a full 5-10 seconds of laggy freeze to get Nvidia control panel to fully load and be clickable. Even then jumping menus in it feels like I'm on a core2duo that's busy at 100% disk load while I'm doing it:P

anyone tested the new RTX auto-HDR feature? picture quality wise it's fucking fantastic! no raised/crushed blacks , no gamma mismatch -- it looks great

but the performance hit is noticable Sad

Not I. I have HDR, but I never use it. Perhaps it's my bright home office my PC is in, or something. HDR always makes shit in games harder/worse to see for me. It looks better (objectively), just makes dark games harder to see shit I want to see, and blinds me on flashes.

Maybe I should try the new one. As it's always been "Wow, that looks better..and somehow worse to play games with..at the same time" and turn it off.

Laughing Nice cat Razz

It's for some of their cards which have a USB-C output for VR devices, it's not installed if not necessary (even if you choose that option).

HDR is only good with OLED panels and high end mini led ones.

Was about to say the what Zor said, then read the next post that said it Very Happy

That's what it is (or assume its is) as Mine does the same and mine has a onboard USB-C.
I install it but dont use it. As I cannot tell any difference at all between the USB-C on my card directly, vs MB back panel USB-C for cable linking my VR to my PC. And the back panel one is far easier to blindly find for me to plug into compared to trying to blindly plug in the card one with 3 monitor cables in the way.

almost 25 years ago, is it just me or have we just evolved very poorly in gfx over such a long span. the max payne part still makes me smile the matrix first timer i was back then, even though i know now its faked and not real destruction, tell me a game that offers that ... besides maybe battlefield 3/4 Sad

128 megs of vram, now we have 12800+ but nowhere near 100x more impressive gfx, maybe 20x

that shiny floor Cool who needs rtx .... and dx12 is a joke and so will be the next version

Do you even understand what Ray Tracing is? 1 path traced pixel has more tech behind in it than 3dmark 25 years ago.

i dont care about the failed rtx tech whatsoever , the floor looks awesome and its even more awesome knowing they did it by just duplicating the whole scene in mirror mode underneath

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Meh its true, I almost always disable mirrored floors for the 70fps performance boost.

Also most games shilling RTX tend to look extremely good without it enabled, it's never worth the -75% performance hit.

I view RTX how I viewed NVIDIA's other endeavors - SLI, PhysX Addon Cards, HairWorks (tm) - nice to have, but ultimately a huge waste of both money and performance resources.

NVIDIA just "happened" to roll out the tech before the crux of all the bitcoin bullshit, and struck it big, as its existence allowed them to jack up prices on their cards higher than they ever had before between generations, just in time for the pandemic and massive shortages.

Scummy fucking company that knows they've got everybody by the balls, as AMD can never seem to get their shit together.

Raytracing is okay if it doesn't kill performance. DLSS is MUCH more important though since it allows you to get smooth fps at higher resolutions/quality than the card could handle without DLSS.
