The game world looks a bit bland, two biomes from the looks of it. I guess it was one of my gripes with first game too.

This is what Witcher 3 does so well i think, it doesn't really feel like biomes; "you are now entering biome 2", it feels more organic than that. Here you could see the first foresty biome and in the distance a sharp cut to biome 2 with the sand-colored mountains.

Elden Ring also has the MMO-like biome 1-10, going on, but i didn't mind it that much and there's a lot of variety there. well, i'd say most games has this feel, only a few doesn't. FO:NV for example: a quick stride from a hot desert to a snowy town lol.

I don't mind having few biomes for the most part, but yeah, the biggest issue I had with the first game was how bland it looked.

Though I think it's more the fault of the art direction if anything.

I liked and finished the original Dragon's Dogma, especially bitterblack island and the urdragon online stuff that you could still do.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is kind of overhyped , even by people who never played the first one.
I think it will be a good game but just more of the same (DD1). So yeah people should temper their expectations imo.

Yeah I'm only interested in the gameplay/combat mechanics since I haven't played the former, but the world looks to be reaaaaally uninspired. Unfortunate.

Deluxe/pre order only gives items that give an advantage. Why someone would actually want that stuff I don't know. Standard edition seems fine imho. Like the game is balanced for standard edition, why cheat with bonus items??
There are 3 difficulty settings anyway, there is no need for bonus items.

From some site:

Quote:
The pre-order bonuses for both editions of Dragon's Dogma 2 are quite similar. Players who pre-order any edition of the game will receive the Superior Weapons Quartet pack, which includes a sword and shield, a bow, twin daggers, and a staff. Each of these weapons is specifically added to aid the Arisen through the early stages of the game as per their starting vocations.

Moreover, players who order the Deluxe edition will receive an additional bonus in-game item, the Ring of Assurance. Although the prequel also featured rings that provided unique status effects to the Arisen, Capcom has not elaborated on the effects of the Ring of Assurance as of now, and it will probably be a surprise till the official release.

Seems pretty dumb way to spend 10 euros/dollars, imo. Tho nobody knows what the ring will do. It's also might not even be available in Day1.

EDIT: Actually the ring is for pre-order bonus. There's some other bonus stuff for Deluxe Edition. Probably all can be found by playing anyway. Hmm, wonder how bad the microtransactions may be.

Thus it possibly getting bad reviews/refunded alot.

still on the fence for this one... i remember dropping the first one bc of the lack of "quality of life" features like a robust fast travel system (fuck those ferrystones) that made the game feel like too much of a chore. i get it that this is part of the game's design philosophy it just wasn't for me

The first hours of DD1 are just bad and confusing. At moment the game says just fuck you without feedback what you are doing wrong. It's not that obvious what the right skills are and you have to spend resources on them that are rare when starting out. Also you are supposed to not pick every fight, that's fine. But starting out it's not clear at all if you are supposed to skip a fight or just suck at the game.

No doubt the devs have learned and the start of the sequal will be somewhat better.

This is why i always thought this game felt more like Gothic than say Oblivion. I like it personally. Always liked also how dark and dangerous night time felt which also reminded me of a PB game.

I agree though i bet it will be more accessible since gamers are more derpy than they've ever been.

I tried all vocations in the first game and Magick Archer was my favorite. Think Assassin had problems with enemies immune to physical damage since most attacks were in that type.

I expect the game to be exactly the same as the first. I refund/demoed it, it's a playable game but unless inventory management is improved over the first i'll pass.

Is this guy a Thief? If so, the thief gameplay looks goofy as fuck

Also the pawns just walking up and surrounding him as he mines those crystals... They could have made it so the pawns automatically mined other crystal growths or something if you were mining, have them help out

Right, exactly like in the first game. I always have to wonder coming to a lot of these threads what the typical expectation is with new games. This studio will make the Gameworld more detailed, improve the player, monster and boss models and animations.

Even the animations, I expect 80% recycled from the first game. A means to minimise cost and increase profit, so long as it's about the same it will sell and get 8-10 out of 10 reviews.

in DD1 pawns can mine, if they are so inclined, but you have to give them a pickaxe.

well i hope it's closely related to the first game, tbh they could re-use everything from the original and just shit out a new map to explore and that'd be great in itself.
not a huge fan of sweeping sequels that don't understand what was good about their previous effort.

when it comes to re-use at the end of the day, i still hate to see it in animations, especially if you've seen the same animation a thousand times over. gameplay systems i'm a little more lenient with, although i always want improvements Laughing
so long as the studio isn't really going out of their way to save a buck instead of making a fun game, i'd happily buy in again.
although with denuvo, it's going to be on 50%+ sale, sorry guys! Laughing

I generally think don't fix it if it ain't broken because the majority of times they "improve/streamline" a feature it winds up dumber and much worse. It seems most the Japanese studios tend to follow this.

I demoed DD1 and it's a playable game, not a 10 out 10 but worth a play. The inventory / shop management was unbearably bad and it teetered on single player MMO, they can fix that with a tighter game world and more meaningful side quests and story arc.

^ Even just asking for more investment in improved writing and a functional UI/UX is probably asking for too much. These companies know the hype will sell, there is no need to improve.
