I've seen 6 eps so far and this imdb user review pretty much sums it up

Quote:

I wonder if I'm the only person that thinks that these shows should maybe cast a believable actor to play a role?

Nano physicist? Think you want a 30 ish year old female who likes going out drinking with friends.

Boss of a particle accelerator? 40s female please

Seems that there's so many shows these days that are cast by children for children - a child might believe that these people are believable in the roles they have but anyone else has to suspend their disbelief whilst watching a character literally having to tell another character - and you - how well qualified and amazing they are.

The whole girl boss meme that has become quite well know is reductive but also is clearly evident here, as the lead character threatens Nick Frost character that she'll put her fist through his head and then walks off leaving him cowering. It's just not believably how people behave except in weird Netflix world.

@OrignalSpaceJockey
Current Director General of The Large Hadron: Fabiola Gianotti..an older female. So unrealistic and fantastically outrageous she has that position.
A female is literally the 'boss' at the most well known collider...

Stacey Harper, Nicole Steinmetz, LaShanda Korley, Christie Sayes, Evelyn Hu, Jill Millstone (and more): All nanoscientists in their 30's that do talks and lead research. Such fantasy land nonsense that they could be doing suchs thing.

Why watch this when there is the Chinese adaptation that is said to be closer to the source material Laughing

1 and 2 are still amazing.

I have watched it. This is not good. There is a lot more emphasis on the love triangles and typical millennial moaning than sci-fi.

Pacing is super uneven. Plot moves way too fast over things I care (sci-fi), and it slows to snail pace when it comes to dRaMa.

4/10. Some episodes are pretty good (earlier ones), but the second half is trash.

I've got it at a 7. Agree the plot seemed to move fast, big reveals after big reveal. I preferred the first half to the second, and i was skipping some of drama. Why 7? because the last 4-5 sci-fi shows have been absolutely awful and this one is at least watchable.

I read the first book some years ago (forgot most of the detail) and thought the Netflix show did alright covering the main plot points.

I then went to get started on re-reading the books this weekend and having made it half way through the first one, the Netflix adaptation really cuts a whole ton of detail, not to mention converted what is really one main character into a rather annoying group of 4 for some unknown reason, I guess mass appeal. So from that perspective, the adaptation is kinda meh. This was made to bring the 3 Body Problem story to a wide audience, not to satisfy fans of the original material.

6.5-7/10 if you haven't read the original, and if you did, probably a go watch Tencent's version instead / 10. That adaptation is very slow though (don't need 30 45 min eps to cover the first book wtf). There is also a 26 episode 'Director's Cut' of that Tencent adaptation as well but not sure if that helps the pacing a whole lot.

Since 3 Body Problem is a little ahead of two other big-budget Netflix sci-fi shows that were canceled after their opening seasons, it is hard not to be cautiously optimistic about its future.

So, the 30-episode chinese series only covers the first book?

from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss

the north still remembers

given the hype around it i tried to watch it but was not feeling it, smells of low quality netflix show. they shoehorned some of the side characters from got in this and the actors feel miscast
