“Sugar” is a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and significant genres in literary, motion picture and television history: the private detective story. Academy Award nominee Colin Farrell stars as John Sugar, an American private investigator on the heels of the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he will also unearth Siegel family secrets; some very recent, others long-buried.
The series also stars Kirby (“The Sandman”), Amy Ryan (“The Wire”), Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry (“Mindhunter”), Alex Hernandez (“Invasion”), and James Cromwell (“Succession”), with guest stars Anna Gunn (“Breaking Bad”) and Sydney Chandler (“Don't Worry Darling”).
From the first episode, tries way too hard to be artsy fartsy nOiR, what with Farrell’s narration, the music, the retarded camera work, the odd cuts to “found footage”, etc.

“Sugar” has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.
The first season of the series, which stars Colin Farrell, debuted in Apple back in April. Farrell will return for the second season.
The series follows John Sugar (Farrell), a private detective in Los Angeles. The official description for Season 2 states that it will “see Sugar find himself back in Los Angeles taking on another missing person’s case, as he continues to look for answers surrounding his missing sister.”
“It has been incredibly exciting to see audiences around the world embrace ‘Sugar,’ and we are thrilled to return for a second season,” said executive producers Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg. “We’re so grateful to our partners at Apple for their support, our showrunner Sam Catlin, the brilliant Colin Farrell, and of course, our viewers. We can’t wait to get John Sugar back on the case.”
They should add a Congrats, you've been Shyamalan'd! message at the end of it with bubbly dance-pop music and virtual confetti in classic Rickrolling style
