Looks great, competent. I've been kind of confident since the demo anyways..
that doesn't inspire much confidence
i hope this turns out great but judging from their first showing, they didn't quite "get" Gothic. And yeah they listened to feedback and blablabla, i get it. But if they had to basically scrap that whole demo they showed, who knows what else they will fuck up.
I truly hope i'm wrong.. because this teaser looks excellent... doesn't ooze xbox360 like the previous demo, teaser, whateverthehell it was.
Well, the teaser was probably made on a shoestring budget, seeing how the studio that's making the remake officialy came into existence months after it was released.
BTW, The mine looks exactly as I remember it from the original, but I am looking at it through rose tinted glasses and processing with my age addled mind.
Gothic 1 is a game from another tine. It was magical because of its open quest driven world and atmosphere. And despite its shortcomings there was nothing like it. I doubt that magic can be recaptured in any kind of form.
Teaser was made in a few months time so yeah, pretty competent group of people. The idea was from team/publisher to see reactions + get input.. "what can we get away with". It was fine for what it was considering time limit / budget.
It will be another open world RPG and to me that's great, it will likely be more fun than UBI "rpgs" at least (i think they're decent, but not amazing by any stretch of the imagination). It might be quite a bit better than Elex 2 even
Will it feel like playing Gothic 1 just like it felt 20+ years ago, no.
"In-game" though, i wonder. Look at the scene where he's thrown out of that house, he takes him up from the ground and beats him and your character bumps into him. That's better than something coming from Rockstar. Animations are too detailed and fluid for me to think its in-game, or at least something that could stay that way.
I mean it's unprecedented for a game to have such animations in-game. The graphics otherwise, sure, maybe. But this isn't Rockstar budget, not even close so i'm gonna hold my hype-horse when it comes to what it will actually look like in-game.
on the other hand, i see no one questioning it in the comments so yes, it created hype. Any investors + publisher is most likely super happy. I like the trailer too but i don't believe for a second it will look like that

It's not in-game though.
"Welcome to the Old Camp in the Valley of Mines. Take a stroll through the camp, meet friendly locals, or go sightseeing. The Arena is said to be especially lovely at this time of the year!
Gothic 1 Remake is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Well it's definitely staged, but untill we see actual ingame footage it's hard to say what quality the animations are.
At least the graphics look fine, though they went a bit too far with the gritty realism desaturation nonsense.
I much rather want a realistic look than a cartoony though, i really would have hated if it looked like My Time at Sandrock or similar "because the original was clearly meant to look cartoonish" or some BS...
I noticed for the previous fly-through video they don't mention anything about their engine at all, why i wonder, if that's also in-engine, aren't they proud and want to make sure we know it..
I don't want to be too negative though, i still think this will be good.
they've never announced a release date but they now announce that you can pre-order and it says " DIESER ARTIKEL ERSCHEINT AM 31. DEZEMBER 2024"
if there was any kind of confidence that it'll be released at that date then i think we would've gotten a release date announcement first. This makes it look very fishy.
Embracer has to recoup those saudi deal losses somehow I guess
To think I got a Sleeper medallion (made from some sort of metal) and playing cards with the normal version of Gothic 1 back in the day. But that was good old CD Projekt, when they were still just a privately owned publisher.
LMAO a dollar store leather portfolio and belt. What the fuck??! God thats the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I lost it when they started flipping through the 99 cent pad of paper pages.
You know what? Gothic has always had an air of shittiness about it, but in a good way. So i'm all right with this.. maybe they're self aware enough to know how ridiculous this looks?
No idea what's in your version, CDProjekt used to go above and beyond with this stuff.
Wasn’t Piranha bytes the dev for the first 2 gothics too?
I'm talking about CDProjekt the publisher/distributor.* In the late 90's and early 00's they only published games from other devs and always did a full polish localisation, which is part of the reason Gothic is a cult classic here. And when western publishers started skimming on additional goodies in boxed copies ( like a manual xD) they still added stuff like the medalion and cards in my copy of the game as a standard.
That's why I have no idea what's inside Interinactive's sealed copy. Could be some drop bear repellant, idk.
* Well technically they're still a publisher, but it's for their own games now.
Pretty sure my copies aren't anything special. Gothic 2 is ATARI branded and from Australia, Gothic 1 is XICAT and from North America
Out of curiosity found a copy of the xicat G1 on ebay, there's a short manual and CD's. That's it.

Still, a big box copy of any game feels better than what you get these days. And they didn't cost 200 euros
The most expensive CE I've ever bought was Witcher 3 at 349PLN I think (I resold it for 3 times the price ) and it had soo many goodies it's almost ridiculous when you compare it to this bullshit.
Medallion, map, 26cm figure of Geralt fighting a Griffon, Artboook, stickers, big ass box, soundtrack, manual, lorebook, steelbook (metal case for the dvd's).
Nice to hear that they have people from the Chronicles Of Myrtana team onboard... (reading one of the devs comments on the Steam forum)
they should've done a separate steam update on that alone, it would get people more hyped than this pre-order garbage that only seem to have made people angry.
After replaying through Gothic 1 last month (Union patch + DX11 renderer + HD textures + various QoL mods) the only aspects that I'd improve in a remake would be the backtracking (which becomes a bit of a nuisance at some point despite the various teleportation runes/spells), the way the combat progressively gets cheese-able (a Piranha trademark, though it nullifies the sense of reward), and of course inventory management since the vanilla one is on the clumsy side.
Everything else still works very well, from the tangible sense of immersion completely free from hand-holding to the dialogues/encounters, the world-building, exploration and progression system. Just make the controlling scheme slimmer (akin to Gothic 2), improve the animations alongside the visual upgrade, et voilà. I fear however that the changes will be more drastic for modern reasons, but there's no gameplay yet so at the moment it's difficult to judge. The old demo was honestly too awful to be taken seriously, let's hope they've thrown all that garbage to the Swampsharks
