So, i want to start this, never played it before, and i know there's a community with mods out there, my question is : what are the ones needed for a first playtrough? I want some mods that dont really change much in comparison to the vanilla, wanna experience the game like it was supposed to be...
Project restoration comes a lot on google, is this a must have, does it enhance the game or its a total conversion or something like that?
Obviously if there are some mods that somehow enhance the graphics wouldnt say not to that hehe
Last I tried the unofficial expansion, I ran across a garbage MMO quest, like "bring me 5 spears" or something in the new tribe locale, and promptly gave up.
Like if that's the calibre of what was cut, then I think you're better off playing FO2 with just the unofficial patch. Though even if most of the new content isn't as bad, I'd suggest to play the first time without extra content anyway.
game looks really nice when on a high resolution but unfortunately the inventory, skills windows remain very small and have a hard time reading; isnt any mod or some way that can make them bigger?

Its not like you are forced to do this quests you know <.< You can complete the vanilla experience without any problems.

I'd already finished FO2 before a few times. I was playing for the new content. And my first encounter with that new content wasn't great, so I stopped.
I'm crossing games from my list of shame and after New Vegas, I'm now playing Fallout 2.
I made it to Vault City and I'm having a blast. Up until this point I could remember some of the quests and areas, but I can't remember much about this place.

Are you playing with the restored content patch? Because I can tell you that while there's some hit and miss here and there the EPA is a pretty fun place to explore.
Ah, so you're playing vanilla. I recommend the restoration patch for a second run.
At least the patch version of it, since Fallout has some nasty bugs.
Both gog and steam just have sFall included. Not really a dev update, just fanmade engine fixes.
Off topic anecdote: the original video of the song is pretty funny, as it's not filmed in SF at all. Check at 1:19 and 2:00 I wonder if anyone recognises the statues or language
The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.
And you may pour us away like soup. Like we're pretty broken flowers.
We'll take back what is ours. One day at a time.

I still don't have a power armor which is becoming a problem now that big guns are used by most enemies.
You can wait till they cycle and appear in the store left of the entrance or just do the Navarro quest and jump straight to having Advanced Power Armor.
Navarro was great fun, but the ending areas were clearly undercooked. San Francisco in particular was very disappointing and quite buggy. The oil rig has its fair share of issues, including being locked out from accessing my companions and getting their endings.
Bugs, balance issues and cut content aside, this is a fantastic game, something that Bethesda will never be able to match. They don't have the talent or the mindset to create such an intricate and captivating storytelling/gameplay.
It would have been nice if Fallout 2 received some sort of facelift, similar to that of Diablo 2.
i used some hi-res patch with zoom last time i played + some fix patch i believe and some mod that added more stuff to it, looked and played great.
its unfortunate that the game only supports very small sized images, so for a facelift the entire game would have to be remade with a new engine or support for larger size images in the current engine (very unlikely to happen).
i don't find the graphics too much of an issue though with the hi-res patch.
