So, I have been having intermittent issues with my mouse, and it is driving me crazy. More often than not the mouse pointer just starts slightly moving or at least "shaking" on-screen without me even touching the mouse. Also, when using it, movements are highly imprecise, making e.g. selecting anything a pain in the ass, not to mention gaming.
I have a ca. 10-year-old Sharkoon Rush optical mouse. My mousepad was also very old, so I replaced it a few weeks ago as a first step. At first, everything seemed fine, but now, the problem has been back for about a week now, and not even cleaning the pad thoroughly seems to help.
Is this a hardware issue, or should I just clean the sensor somehow? I don't mind buying a new mouse, I just want to make sure I actually find the cause of the problem at last. I have tried various mouse sensitivity settigns (meaning, dpi), but to no avail.
Has anyone ever run into such a problem?

Not yet, just occurred to me that I should borrow one that actually works to see if that indeed is the source of my issues.

Yeah, sometimes the most obvious solution eludes a person...
