EA has reported lower-than-expected interest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, saying BioWare's fantasy RPG "engaged" approximately 1.5m players during the quarter - a number it describes as being "down nearly 50 percent from the company's expectations."

I guess profit remains well guarded and veiled from EA Aww Yeah

Despite Dragon Age: The Veilguard failing to meet EA's business expectations, BioWare's latest was well-received by critics when it launched in October 2024. "It's warm and welcoming, funny and hopeful, gentle when it needs to be, and of course it's epic," Eurogamer's Robert Purchese wrote in his five star review. "The Veilguard is spectacular. BioWare is back."

Also there are some rumors that Bioware Edmonton is going to be eradicated, what a hit Laughing

Obviously the slimy journo dipshit has since deleted this xeet Laughing

Given this stage of development, we don’t require support from the full studio. We have incredible talent here at BioWare, and so we have worked diligently over the past few months to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that had open roles that were a strong fit.

Today’s news will see BioWare become a more agile, focused studio that produces unforgettable RPGs. We appreciate your support as we build a new future for BioWare."

Dunno, this is kinda normal after the all the work on the game is over I think. Definitely NOT a good sign for any future games though and they know it.
And being Canadian cuck BioWare I doubt they got rid of the useless xirs but that's good, maybe EA can use them as a sort of containment area for they/them as a way to not having they/them ruin all their other developing teams Laughing

https://www.vg247.com/looks-like-dragon-age-the-veilguard-main-credited-writing-team-no-longer-at-bioware

Quote:
It looks like the entirety of Dragon Age: The Veilguard's main credited writing team is now no longer working at BioWare
Following the studio's latest bit of downsizing, the final few remaining writers appear to have departed.

Every writer credited as being a part of the main writing team on Dragon Age: The Veilguard no longer appears to be working at BioWare, with a number of departures at various points in the past having been added to by the studio's latest restructuring.

Following the downsizing announced yesterday in a blog post penned by BioWare general manager Gary McKay, Veilguard writing lead Trick Weekes posted on BlueSky that he's "now looking for a new writing/narrative position" as his 20 years at the studio have come to an end.
On top of this, fellow writer Brianne Battye revealed that she's among those who've moved from BioWare to Motive Studio as part of the rectructuring, with Sheryl Chee seemingly being in the same boat.

Taking a look at the game's credits as listed on MobyGames and IMDB, you'll find those two names listed as part of Veilguard's main writing design team, alongside a number of others.

Of those others, however, Sylvia Feketekuty announced that she was departing BioWare last month after 15 years, Courtney Woods left the studio to join Ghost of Yotei developer Sucker Punch in 2022, with John Dombrow having made a move to the same studio as Woods about a year later, in 2023. Meanwhile, both Mary Kirby and Lukas Kristjanson look to have been let go from BioWare in August 2023. Finally, Jo Berry is listed in MobyGames' credits for Veilguard, and according to her Linkedin page left BioWare for a writing position at Motive in 2017.

That's nine writers, unless the most recent departures end up being brought back in some capacity, on the latest Dragon Age game no longer working for BioWare, at least on a full-time basis. Veilguard game director Corrine Busche also revealed earlier this month that she's leaving BioWare to work on a new RPG elsewhere.

Given that, despite what idiots on the internet might say, Veilguard was far from an unmitagated disaster of a game, even if it didn't hit the potentially overzealous targets EA set for it financially, it'll be sad if indeed the entire writing team behind it - aside perhaps from some localisers who're listed as part of other teams - have indeed either been shown the door or departed the studio on their own terms. Especially since many were long-time Dragon Age series stalwarts who'd also worked on previous entries in the series.

The games industry in 2025, definitely a healthy place to work without the constant shadow of potential turnover or just being chucked into the sun by some corporately-mandated "restructuring".

Writing was horrendous. Childlike. Worst of Marvel level writing. No depth at all.

These people shouldn't work in games. Fanfic level at most.

https://www.eurogamer.net/bioware-staff-loaned-to-other-ea-studios-may-not-be-returning-new-report-suggests

Quote:
"If they want to work at BioWare again, they would have to look for job openings and re-apply."

A new report now suggests that some BioWare staff "loaned" to other EA studios will not be returning.

Earlier this week, amid reports of potential layoffs at BioWare, studio general manager Gary McKay has confirmed "many" employees have now been moved elsewhere in EA following the completion of Dragon Age: The Veilguard - and that a remaining core team is fully focused on Mass Effect 5.

Now, however, Bloomberg is reporting that the "loans" made by BioWare to support EA teams elsewhere have now "morphed into permanent relocations".

According to Bloomberg sources and "people familiar with what happened", staff are no longer BioWare employees "temporarily on assignment elsewhere" but, in fact, now work for whichever EA subsidiary had borrowed them.

"If they want to work at BioWare again in the future, they would have to look for job openings and re-apply," Bloomberg stated.

"This was an unwelcome development for some of the employees, who now find themselves on brand-new teams at studios they’d never planned to join. Some had come to BioWare to work on storied role-playing game franchises and found the idea of working on action or sports games less appealing."

This means BioWare has seemingly halved its 200 headcount to around 100 in just two years.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect veteran Trick Weekes is among a group of BioWare veterans who recently announced they are now looking for work following the news that BioWare is downsizing.

But Jason told us the game was topping the charts?! Laughing

IMHO, DA2 had better writing and a more interesting story (the whole Mage vs Templar conflict, Arishok, Red Lyrium) than DA:O (which had a semi-generic dark fantasy plot with some good bits) but the gameplay was just abysmal. DA:0's gameplay also wasn't anything to write home about to be honest but it wasn't DA2's mmo crap.
