Quote:
"I mean, if you look back to the peak or the pinnacle of Battlefield, it's that Battlefield 3... Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern. And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we'll see where it goes from there. But I think for me, it's that peak of Battlefield-ness is in that Battlefield 3 and 4 days. So I think it's nostalgic for players, for me, for the teams even. Those are kind of the heyday...although I would say 1942 also."

"Yeah, the 128 player, did it make it more fun? Like...doing the number for the sake of the number doesn't make any sense. We're testing everything around what's the most fun. So like you said, the maps, once they get to a certain scale, become different. It's a different play space, and I think you have to design around that. So we are designing something that is more akin to previous Battlefields," Zampella says.

"So I wasn't there for 2042. I don't know what the rationale was, but for me, it's like the team tried something new. You have to applaud that effort. Not everybody liked it, but you got to try things. It didn't work. It didn't fit. Specialist will not be coming back. So classes are kind of at the core of Battlefield, and we're going back to that," Zampella says.

Let's hope for the best. Especially heroes being out of plan, futuristic nonesense is also out, so considering how low the bar currently is, it can actually be good. EA is still EA, so the risks are still there.

Having spent thousands of hours between the two, while I don't disagree with your assessment, I can also remember those two particular ones having had ROUGH launches. Like really shitty from a technical/networking perspective.

That, and it took them a long time to get the balancing right on weapons/vehicles. Having played the series since Battlefield Vietnam, I'd say that's where most of the modern iterations fail miserably. It's very evident that DICE's internal QA/balancing team are NOT Battlefield players - they don't know how actual people play their games and/or they fucking suck. It takes DICE FOR FUCKING EVER to get off their ass and fix balancing issues (we're talking YEARS), and by the time they do most people's interest in the game has waned. It also sucks going back to it only to find everything feels so different, largely because they messed around with absolutely everything since you last played. Not a good feeling as a returning player.

They did that whole Battlelog thing for a while, harvesting all that data...why not throw invites to good players, fly them down to the office for a week and iron out glaring balancing shit before launch? Too much money/effort I suppose, but it's kind of embarrassing the state in which they launch this series in now'adays.

Speaking of...whatever happened to that Battlefield networking guru , Chris / Battlenonsense or whatever his name was? Did EA/DICE threaten to sue him into oblivion for calling out their shoddy network implementation, unless he shut up? I always enjoyed his videos.

For me the best were Bad Company 2 and BF3.

BF4 was a technical mess for a very LOOONG while. Too long for me. Also, the game started a COD-ification trend that displeased me enormously.

Think that the problem with Battlefield is that they can't sell the game anymore cause it looks good, people don't care about that anymore. BF3 was way worse concerning bugs/performance then 2042 at release. But it was a benchmark title. People ignored the bad cause there was little competition and had shiny graphics. If a game was released in that state today it would have failed.

And there is so much competition. Even older BF titles. I like to play BF 5 once in a while. It's WW2 Battlefield, it looks OK. Why bother with a new title.

Most multiplayer shooters are gonna F2P anyway. Call of Duty is the exception. People are not gonna pay 60-70 euro's for a reskin of Battlefield these days.

Agreed, of the recent-ish ones, BC2 was the one I enjoyed most because you could literally shoot everything to shit and the maps were well designed and it worked pretty well at launch. BF3 did some things better but many of the maps were not as good. BF4 I've lost interest in after taking ages to fix and maps were meh. Didn't play any of the more recent ones apart from the betas which I all hated.

Well, he surely posts new interesting information about upcoming (Battlefield) games before anyone else on YT.

I don't bother with his other, more frequent click-baity stuff, though.

I guess we watched a different video Laughing He was just relaying the new info (+video demo) revealed at EA investor's day on tuesday.

Not his usual long gameplay videos, which are the ones I insta-skip.
