Nice, though for being made a few days ago why are they using such old browser versions?

Quote:

All ad blockers were installed and used with their default settings, nothing else was changed. The only exception is Ghostery which runs a wizard on startup where you need to choose what to block, for that we selected only the Advertising blocking option. Chrome 44 and Firefox 40 were the browsers used for testing.
Read More: https://www.raymond.cc/blog/10-ad-blocking-extensions-tested-for-best-performance/view-all/

Firefox is at v50 stable, v51 beta and v52 Aurora at the moment, Chrome is 55.xx stable and 56.xx beta.
(I'm on the v51 Firefox beta branch, far as performance improvements go the e10s process separation should now be far more functional even in the stable branch of the browser to name one major improvement.)

EDIT: Though I suppose a good score even on a older less optimized browser version is still a valid result as to how the extension performs. Smile

I've been using AdNauseam. It's built on top of ublock origin, the difference is that also simulates a click from the user.

<AdNauseam 'clicks' Ads by issuing an HTTP request to the URL to which they lead. In current versions the is done via an XMLHttpRequest (or AJAX request) issued in a background process. This lightweight request signals a 'click' on the server responsible for the Ad, but does so without opening any additional windows or pages on your computer. Further it allows AdNauseam to safely receive and discard the resulting response data, rather than executing it in the browser, thus preventing a range of potential security problems (rogue Javascript or Flash code, XSS-attacks, etc.) caused by malfunctioning or malicious Ads. AdNauseam's clicking behaviour can be de-/activated in the settings panel.>

I'm trying this Adnauseam, thanks for the heads up. Have you noticed Chrome popping up with a message saying it's not supported ? I do get that developers mode message though...

Bastards at Google finally killed off my uBlock Origin today. Not happy so I'm on a mission now to find something to replace it with so I've no adverts in YouTube...

Ublock Origin still works for me.
I got the "This is no longer supported" blah blah, and it disabled it. I just turned it back on and seems to be fine.

Adnauseam seems self-defeating. Sure it swamps the ads by making it look like you clicked all of them (unable to filter you to targeted ads). But this generates click ad money for the advertisers, reinforcing that people click ads and make them money.
Seems like this would make the problem worse of advertisers seeing click-through rates to be encouraged to do more, not less.

uBlock Origin Lite is still up:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin-lite/ddkjiahejlhfcafbddmgiahcphecmpfh

If you need to install uBlock Origin in a fresh PC then you can do so from GitHub:
1. https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock
2. https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases
3. https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.62.0

4. Download the file: uBlock0_1.62.0.chromium.zip
Extract the .zip file.

5. To install, in this page, with Developer mode enabled:
chrome://extensions/
click on Load unpacked, then go to and choose the folder where the
- managed_storage.json
- manifest.json
files reside.
DO NOT REMOVE this folder while extension is installed.

On the downside, you'll have to check for updates manually in the GitHub releases page: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases

While logged into your GitHub account, you can sub to email notifications for new Releases and other things by clicking on Watch > Custom > Releases
on this page, at the top:
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock

The major point of contention is that Google is disabling extensions based on Manifest V2 which uBlock Origin is primarily based on. You can read all the details here:
- https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBOL-home/wiki/Frequently-asked-questions-(FAQ)

This is what Google Generative AI has to say about this topic:
Quote:
Yes, Google Chrome is deprecating Manifest V2 extensions and will no longer accept them in the Chrome Web Store. The goal is to improve the security and performance of extensions.

How is Manifest V2 being deprecated?
- Warnings: Users of Manifest V2 extensions see a warning banner in the extension management page
- Disabled extensions: Manifest V2 extensions are disabled in Chrome stable
- Featured badge: Manifest V2 extensions lose their Featured badge in the Chrome Web Store
- Recommendations: Users are recommended Manifest V3 alternatives for their disabled extensions

When is Manifest V2 being deprecated?
- The phase-out of Manifest V2 extensions began in June 2024 on the Chrome Beta, Dev, and Canary channels
- Enterprises using the ExtensionManifestV2Availability policy have until June 2025 to migrate

    Made some edits.

I switched to the "Brave" browser after i had to keep updating Ublock for Youtube adds.

Absolutely love it thus far. I didn't even have to install a extension for adblocking and i had zero issues since, it even made me install it on my phones. Installation was a breeze as well.

Well I've tried Brave and FF and I have to say I'm not impressed with either. Both have terrible scrolling, very jerky. I've tried a few extensions and they only seem to make it worse. Out of desperation for my beloved uBlock Origin and smooth scrolling, I tried Edge. Well colour me impressed. I have smooth scrolling and uBlock Origin is working again. Everything is back to normal with the world.

Maybe mine hasn't got the update to break it. Mine still works that I installed years ago.

I got the "This extension will be disabled" (or whatever the message was) and Chrome disabled it a few weeks ago. I just re-enabled it and it's been OK.
Maybe just not updating Chrome works, as it seems minet hasnt auto updated since then and working A-OK.

Thing is, Manifest V3 is not as adblocker friendly. To which, the common reaction from users right now towards Google is "Fuck you and your ad revenue protection scheme".

ublock Origin developer already has an adblocker that is 100% compliant with Manifest V3 called uBlock Origin Lite.

So, is uBlock Origin Lite inferior to the original uBlock Origin? Depends on the websites being visited, i.e., the website in question may not require all the robust features of uBlock Origin and uBlock Origin Lite features (basic, optimal or complete) will suffice.

Based on what? It not working for you, a single sample point on one computer?

    Mine works fine still:

And not seen one ad on youtube.
It might not work for some people, for some reason.
Not work for anyone? Not even a debate I agree. as It clearly does.

Why does mine work? Not a clue. Same for why yours doesn't.

I've been using uBlock Origin Lite since March 4th on YouTube. Won't use Lite if it didn't work because I despise ads on YouTube.

I have the filtering mode set to optimal for YouTube. The filtering mode(no filtering, basic, optimal or complete) is exclusive for each website. For example, I've the filtering mode set to complete for Twitch.

    For YouTube:

Then don't say things that are not true with such sass. Or the woman you hate correcting will stand behind you nagging Smile
I didn't want anyone taking the assumption you made of "it won't work for anyone" as correct and not trying it to see if it still does for them. When what you meant is it doesn't work for you.
