I tried to play Broken Sword remastered, because i got interested in playing some type of adventure game all of a sudden. holy shit is the writing and logic just horrible and chilidsh, even in the first few minutes. You can tell reading books must be very, VERY uncommon these days with people praising the shit out of something like this.
I wish i could find one with good writing. I could ask on a forum but i don't think people overall even know what good writing is so they'd likely recommend something equally bad or worse and say it was incredible. It's absolutely possible that the overall story is great, but i can't take it seriously from the start and that just ruins it for me.

Well written games are a rare commodity these days, particularly RPGs it seems. Recent games with decent story that come to mind are Loco Motive (point&click adventure), and (playing it now) The Roottrees are Dead (investigation/mystery game).
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Yeah, definitely play Obra Dinn first then. Absolute gem of a game. I played it again after a few years, but everything about it is so memorable, it took me just an hour or 2 to get through, unfortunately.
And Papers, Please too, in case you haven't (same dev, also a masterpiece)

You won't find Evelyn Waugh prose in any game, especially not in adventure games. Game design prohibits that. I'm still ranking them as amongst the best at storytelling. I fell into a strong adventure mood some years ago. I played most of the classics for the first time, and a few of them remain some of the best gaming experiences. First Broken Sword was passable for me, all the rest in the series are way worse. Try these, if they're not up to your liking, hardly anything will be. Or possibly just remember them, and return to them at a later time, adventure games are an acquired taste genre.
All three Gabriel Knight games. They aged in reverse order. Third one is early 3d game with extremely clunky controls. For some reason it includes action sequences at the end. But it's still got an interesting plot, hand crafted locations that are really fun to explore, and well executed puzzles. I like the 2nd one the best, because of its unique setting.
Longest Journey. A bit easy, but it's got a fantastic story. Just try to ignore all the sequels.
Grim Fandango. Even though it's got classic Lucas Arts humour, that I don't like, plot progression makes it a truly memorable experience.

I played the Roboquest demo, and quite liked it. Will buy it together with a buddy once it gets near the EUR 10 price tag.

Now playing Batman Arkham series for the fourth time. Arkham Knight going. Still a blast!

WH40K: Battlesector
I always return to this game from time to time. A shame the devs are lazy as fuck with the updates, and some QoL features are still missing, but it's a fun challenge most of the time.
Jagged Alliance 3
I had an itch for some TBS/TBT game other than XCOM. This one is okayish, but nowhere near as good as I remember JA 2 v1.13 to be. Which was fantastic.

Did you find the audio to be fucked in the remaster? I kept hearing enemies in other rooms as it they were right next to me. Didn't remember that happening in the OG.

Pretty addictive gameloop, so far (played about 20 hours so far). Big open world, lots of stuff to discover, and you can break pretty much everything.

It's pretty cathartic to wack everything aparat but the game is a bit too long, especially with the DLC.

Sins of a Solar Empire II
Pretty good game, even though a bit barebones still. A shame that diplomacy is just a placeholder, basically, as it counts for fuck-all.
Oh, and the game is no "Stellaris killer", despite what some fools have been claiming. It's a fun game in its own right, but is nowhere NEAR as complex as Stellaris...
Age of Wonders 4
This game keeps getting updated and expanded upon, and even though it is a bit daunting to come back to and see all the new stuff added from like 2 years ago, this is also a very fun game.
The only problem with both of the above is that I have been catching myself playing until 4 a.m.... Time seems to pass in a different way than normally.
