I’m in episode 4 now. Its okish. But even without knowing the source material, I think the gender swapping and gehification was pretty obvious.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
But netflix is still netflix. The amount of wokeness on the square meter is insane. There are more LGBTQI+++ characters than I have ever seen in a single show. There's a lot of gender swapping as well, compared to what I know about the comic, which led to an overwhelming number of female characters.
I'am on episode 5 right now, and it feels like, until now every second character is either lesbian or gay.
I finally got around to watching this, normally I would have watched something like this in 2 days but this one took a lot longer just because it did not really feel like I had to rush back to see what happens next. As for the cast, I was never a big fan of Jenna Coleman in Doctor Who but I rather they had her play Death than the actress they picked.
About the Constantine gender swap, I think that was more due to HBO owning the rights to John Constantine than something Netflix decided to do on their own. It probably wasn't a big deal using John when HBO was also going to do Sandman but that all changed when it went to Netflix.
Since Gaiman was a part of this, I really do not think story wise or even the show quality would have changed much between it being on HBO or Netflix. It will be interesting to see if they do a second season though as I am just not sure this show will have long standing viewership which is what Netflix seems to base a lot of the renewals on especially since this show was reported to be pricey to make.
It is actually 2 episodes as one. It was probably delayed a bit since one of them is a cartoon, so it probably was not done or they felt it would be out of place as part of the season 1 storyline.

second part is ok but first part you could scrap it, but releasing this at a later date looks stupid, its just a normal filler ep
I enjoyed the first half/6 episodes, it had some brilliant episodes and performances where Gaiman clearly had the most say, then it kinda deteriorates in the second half as the show rushes to wrap up while ticking a few ESG approved boxes. But overall not too bad.
I still would have loved a proper finale to American gods tho.

This show started well enough but degenerated into a gay/tranny show where it felt like the gay agenda was more in focus than the story. The story also became worse and less interesting/Sandman like towards the end not to mention getting rid of the depth and seriousness, replacing it with a goofy Dr. Who style.
I guess (hope) this was one of the last productions by Netflix before they cracked down on the wokeness a couple of months ago.
Quote:
The streaming service dished out a new 'culture memo' targeting woke workers
The document tells staff if they're offended by content they can leave the firm.
It warned they will not 'censor artists or voices' if employees consider it 'harmful'.
The document also called on workers to tighten their belts and reign in spending.
The ailing website has been struggling after shelling out viewers and losing cash.
I guess we'll see if future Netflix productions have shows that aren't disguised woke/lbgtq+ activism.
"Gaiman had previously explained that The Sandman may not get the go-ahead for a second season, even after being the number one show on the platform for two weeks in a row.

Oh well.
EDIT: Oooh, I didn't know there's an 11th episode... Cool, getting it now.
"The Sandman S01E11 Dream of a Thousand Cats and Calliope 1080p"
Neil Gaiman has also vocally revealed on Twitter that scripts for the season two were already written, which further elevated fans' excitement.
However, there is still no official announcement by The Sandman team regarding a new season and fans are eager to get updates on the show’s future as they look forward to see the second season adapt remaining parts of the comics.
When approaching The Sandman season 2, Gaiman listened to fan feedback, integrating suggestions and comments where they would improve the story while still maintaining the story’s integrity. This shows just how in touch the author is with his audience and how much he values their opinions. A great example of Gaiman’s receptiveness can be seen in the way he handled criticism surrounding the character of Despair and the poor fat representation.
Rather than doubling down, he owned up to the fact that he dropped the ball, promising that The Sandman season 2 will show Despair in a different light. The series will also improve representation overall by introducing more fat characters and Wanda, a transwoman. These upcoming changes increase excitement and anticipation for The Sandman season 2.
“the next time you see Despair on the screen you won’t think of her as frumpy, depressed and unloved”
But.. that's literally Despair ? Did they realize their whole entire bunch, Sandman included, are not exactly supposed to be all that sympathetic?
Reads like an AI article, though. Either way, I suspected this was not really adaptable and wouldn't translate well for a TV show at all.. and so it did !

hahahahahahahaha
sure. i bet not even the activists who supports this garbage watches the show. this is just another fucking ESG scam, not a real show that's made for watching.
and yes, it absolutely sounds like this is written by an AI and not a real person, that makes a lot of sense too because no one gives a shit about this show since it's just ESG scam garbage.

Exactly the part where I was like increased the excitement for who??? Who are these people??? The 5 accounts on twitter what the fuck
The Sandman will conclude with the release of its upcoming second season. Officially, the line is that the series is finishing because the story of Tom Sturridge's Morpheus — aka Dream — is coming to its natural end. And while that is doubtless a key factor, much like Prime Video's suddenly cut short Good Omens, it's hard not to assume that the serious and ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct that have been brought against creator Neil Gaiman in recent months have played their part in Netflix's decision to pull the plug.
