Hmm more and more women seem to have some interest in e-sports so I guess some devs would try to cater to this, feels odd to segregate it more though but I guess they have to start with something.
(So what would happen if they announced a male only competition?)
EDIT:

"It's a shame we need women-only teams, leagues and competitions in esports," she said. "But until the sector fully matures, becomes more gender balanced and takes steps to eradicate online bullying and misogyny, they represent a great way to get more women involved by building communities, confidence and skills."
|
Ah yes E-Sports in general has had a lot of criticism due to these issues, that would need to be resolved although splitting it up like this still seems a bit backwards but what would I know, probably not exactly the easiest issue to work out so it's going to take time.
EDIT: Probably don't need that first part.
EDIT: Further editing.
(It looks like they're trying for a good cause even if I personally feel like it's the ideal direction but it might help a little.)

I don't think I've ever heard of a racing esports event before. Now I have, so mission accomplished.

Most of them are quite shittily organized so no wonder they aren't bigger.
Women only competitions are daft.
If you want to combat bullying and such, organize an all inclusive league and toss out anyone who doesn't behave according the rules. Simple as that.

Ian Bellend to the rescue
Quote: | Former Slightly Mad Studios Ian Bell is resurrecting the beloved GTR sim racing series under his new development house, Straight4Studios, made up of former Slightly Mad Studios veterans who have worked on Project CARS and the original GTR racing simulations.
As part of a strategic partnership, Straight4Studios is teaming up with Reiza Studios, the Brazilian developer behind Automobilista and Automobilista 2.
Published by Plaion, Straight4’s unnamed GTR reboot is targeting a Q4 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This will be the first time GTR has come to consoles. |

Apparently, it will be a sim with multiple types of cars (even rally) and will have some sort of real-time AI-generated commentary/engineer chatter alongside more arcane stuff that The Bell is secretly cooking inside his London mansion.
Edit #2024 Edition:
It's now called Project Motor Racing, Unreal Engine 5 was ditched in favour of the trusty Madness Engine because of performance/VR compatibility and the Farming Simulator folks will publish it...assuming the game ever gets released

@ixigia
I love that this historic thread has been necroed so many times for this vaporware.
So former SimBin, turned former Blimey!, turned former Slightly Mad Studios, turned former Codemasters, turned former EA developers (oh my ) have created yet another studio under Bell, to create another GTR clone. Aren’t they all in their 70s now?
At least they ditched Unreal Engine. Bell can read a room, at least. Nobody likes that engine, other than corporate overlords who want to keep employee job security to a minimum.

Indeed
I didn't even bump the thread again last month but sneakily added the new info since there's nothing concrete so far - apart from Bell's nearly infinite list of promises as per usual. It's not GT-focused anymore either as the car roster/structure is more akin to Project Cars. At least it *should* feature actual physics which is the reason I'm always interested despite the circus and Bell-o-drama. With some Reiza guys on board, it makes a lot of sense to go back to the trusty Madness Engine (hopefully updated), also when it comes to native VR support. Anything is better than Unreal Engine, especially after EA's tragically dated and malfunctioning WRC Frankenstein beast

To be honest, we were pretty skeptical about Project Cars all these years ago (including Pumpy’s spoons ), but it turned out OK. I like the original, as disjointed as it was, much better than the second, and certainly the arcade third.

@LeoNatan
Agreed, 1 had best handling model, 2 had the best race setup options for MP, and 3 just sucked dick so hard I had to pull the sheets out of my ass when it was done.

All mocking aside, both PC1 and PC2 were solid in my book as far as streamlined simulators go - hitting that nice jack-of-all-trades-like sweet spot that was painfully absent on PC (also in terms of single-player content/proper Career Mode) and resulting in a vastly superior experience to Forza and the likes. PC2 was especially close to greatness in my opinion, it only needed a few more meaty patches instead of silly DLCs...but alas. Unfortunately, we never had a third game.
Bell is an incomplete visionary so to speak, which means that he has brilliant ideas and his intentions are pure but he's not the greatest at managing money/big projects and often tends to leave scorched earth behind. He's also allergic to constructive criticism which doesn't help, some of his random outbursts on the official forums back then were hilarious
Hopefully, the smaller scope of this current project can lead to more realistic targets instead of the crazy "it's going to be tremendous, the best of the best" proclaims, and it would be great if he succeeded again.
