This will probably be my GOTY for this year (despite it having been released December 2023), as it's certainly not going to be Dragon Age. And here I was thinking I'd never enjoy anything from this studio.
U no like Pathfinder?
I liked the "trappings" of Pathfinder (the universe, the visuals, the story, the music were all top notch). The ruleset and combat system however is far too autistic and ruined the entire experience for me. The invulnerable swarm bullshit instantly comes to mind.
That's where this one shines - when allowed to deviate from the "official " ruleset, Owlcat managed to create a competent combat system that doesn't take Kasparov level "think 12 moves ahead" to enjoy, or even excel at in higher difficulties. The combat is far better and actually enjoyable.
I just started playing this (I'm just after chapter 1) and so far no game breaking shit. Space marine 2 got me in the mood for some more Warhammer 40k and so far it's decent.
I heard things about late chapers being problematic so I cant speak for that just yet.

The game started to fall apart for me halfway through the prison (chapter 3). I still recommend to often save once you're there, as depending on your actions/choices you could permanently lose some companions. Perhaps even check a guide beforehand, just to be sure. Really dumb design.
The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.
And you may pour us away like soup. Like we're pretty broken flowers.
We'll take back what is ours. One day at a time.
Yeah, well... after Kingmaker I made saves every like 2 minutes and before every bigger fight. Just in case I would need some rng help with dices
Some things don't change I guess.

I also suggest you take a screenshot of every character's equipment inventory beforehand - because it makes the grievous and unforgivable sin of not re-equipping your original inventory afterwards.

Well, I'm back to playing it after a looong time. The Outer worlds 2 got so old after a while that I needed a palate cleanser.
And this is really depressing cause again, the prologue and whatever I've played of chapter 1 are really fucking good. And I don't see why the rest of chapter 1 and chapter 2 won't be just as great as the first time. Now I'm just dreading the crashout in chapter 3 again, I don't know... Guess I'll have to push through it again when I get there. I'm hoping everything works past that and I can at least experience a functional game.
It does feel a lot easier this time around. Not sure if they changed some of the balancing, or I'm just better at building the characters, but I might need to up the difficulty a bit.
The Lex Imperialis DLC is awful so far. The writing is terrible, with a lot more modern speech in it, or current rather than modern I suppose. Either way, it's the most pushed your RT is into being all over this guy from the start with most options being flirting for whatever reason.
The RT acts the most out of character and you are the most railroaded. Stuff you should be able to handle you have to just give to the story to do, and you're more on a cheap, poorly thought out ride. Never are you aloud to solve it, and even if you want to it plays out the same.
There are some good ideas there, and on the mechanical side it brings some neat things. But my god is the execution poor.
Even more disappointing considering Void Shadows was so much better. Mind you, even that has a bit of a self-insert-oc issue with the new character, but she's far better than the guy, and really it's more the whole playing as a party member that I had the issue in that, and not much else. Lex imperialis has both.
