Meh. Looks the same except higher resolution. Textures are blurry and playing the original game with mods looks better.

Niiiice... both 1 and 2 were long overdue for me. After playing the remaster of the 1st one i was blown away by the story and complex mechanics. It was amazing So Much Win

SS1 wasn't a remaster, it was a complete remake. This one will be a remaster, ie. updated to support higher resolutions, widescreen, upscaled textures etc.

Oh right, my bad. But I understand it was pretty much 1:1 when it comes to gameplay.

They probably have to, how long have they worked on this, like 6 years? Unlikely they'll even turn a profit Laughing

The launch stream had 50 viewers.

I didn't finish the original System Shock back in the day. It had, for me, very awkward controls and I didn't get far enough to get sucked in. I wish they'd do a remake like SS2 (same people that made the SS2 remake).

Didn't they just use pre existing texture mods tho?

Now even close, and that's a good thing. Laughing

nope, they remade meshes, textures, some gameplay elements, added some stuff to some levels..

the Dreamcast leak of the source code has helped them a lot, just like it helped the modding community as a whole, so they didnt need to reverse engineer all of it.

On the bright side, the devs have honoured the 'support the SS1 Remake and get the SS2 Remaster for free' deal and mine was automatically added to Steam yesterday. Nic̓̐̕e̡͖̞ d̵e̵̺̠͕̔͊̓al, in̵s̴e̵̓̾͘c̵͖̪̀͘t

I can tell the meshes are new and animations as well, what confused me was what Gmanshills said in his video around 1:26

so im not sure if they used the textures from that mod or made their own.

Anyone played through the remaster? Any heinous bugs they've added? Any balance changes that have unintended consequences etc? I'm due for a replay, probably give this a warezing. Already bought this back in '99.. or at least my parents did for my birthday Cool

edit: saw some post on steam about doors that are locked that shouldn't be. sigh

I didn't encounter any major bugs apart from a few psychedelic flickering textures, though games work in mysterious ways. There are improvements in terms of weapon animations and some minor balancing, with textures mostly coming from community packs + upscaled UI (icons and text, but not the maps) + updated/remade models and misc items. If I hadn't gotten the new version for free I probably wouldn't have bought it since the modded original game already provides a satisfying experience (better mod support also means more options at your disposal), still, it's a fairly smooth remustarding job that works out of the box (in single-player, as I have no interest in co-op/multiplayer).

I played through it, no issues. The balance changes are probably the best thing about it. They made some underperfoming perks, weapons and skills viable, but it's still easy because the AI remains awful.
