A friend of mine recently got an RTX 3060 Ti and for some reason sometimes his games (Wild assault, Elder scrolls online, genshin impact, fortnite) makes his monitor fully shut down, altho he says the monitor's light blinks when it happens

His specs are:

-ASUS PRIME a320m-k (2017, the oldest stuff)
-GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 3060 Ti 8GB
-32GB DDR4 RAM Micron
-2 SSDs
-Cougar XTC argb 650 650 W
-Philips 275V8LA (27" VA 75hz)
-W11 latest version

Drivers are up to date

I wanted to ask what could be the issue. Bottleneck?. Bad plugging?.. What should he be checking out and do to discard things out?

Thanks in advance!

Does he have anything plugged into the same circuit that turns on and off that uses motors, or compressors, or anything that needs a capacitor in th setup to 'kick' start it?

I had a similar issue so worth a check:
Come to find out had nothing to do with my PC at all. My mini fridge when it kicked on, sent 'noisy' feedback into the wall which is on the same circuit as my whole computer setup and this one monitor out of 3 was sensitive to it.
75% of the time when the fridge came on, it would go black and LED flash like I unplugged the Displayport cable. Took me a week to figure it out, since I JUST happen to have quiet in my office when the fridge quietly came on, and heard it 'click' right when screen died.

If its flashing the led, its not shutting down. It's losing/lost signal. If it was shut down it would have no blinking LED.
And in that case a PC can totally make it so monitor loses signal (stops sending one).

He says that it indeed powers off his monitor, as when it happens the sound from his monitor speakers also stops

He tried using his 32" LG TV (NON OLED) and the same issue happens. He even tried lowering the resolution from 1080p to 1360x768 but nothing. The monitor/TV "stays on", saying there's no signal, yet the PC is still powered up when it happens

If it kinda helps, he says that playing ATLYSS or COMMAND & CONQUER REMASTERED DOESN'T causes these issues

I suspect two things for now:

-He shown me his new bought HDMI cable, 2.0 4K supported "with ethernet" and 1.8 meters, and the cable might not be good enough?. Should he get something like a UGREEN?

-CPU bottlenecking the GPU causes the screen to power off because it can't power powerful games?

-The monitor and TV are just weak?

@SumZero: My PC has a similar issue but not with the fridge. We have 4 Air Conditioners at home and, for some reason, 2 of them (when powered on, 1 or the other or both) causes the PSU (CORSAIR SHIFT 1200W) to make coil whine noises. I don't know if there's some kind of fix for that (Change the wall cables or something?) because when it sounds it is HORRIBLE

Would a CORSAIR RM850x be fine for him or do you suggest something else like Seasonic or Be Quiet? (Altho i've heard Be Quiet has gotten some weird fans in some of their PSUs)

Of course fully modular. If ya have good examples for these brands it'd help, specially with the Amazon Prime Days

EDIT: His monitor has been turning off like 3 times without playing anything, just watching a stream or simply drawing. There's something really wrong with his PC. Either the GPU, the HDMI cable or the monitor itself, but again it also happens with his TV, so it must be PC side

Also his monitor's a PHILIPS 24E1N1100A in the end

His previous GPU was a GTX 1050 Ti ASUS OC 4GB, wich never had this issue

Does the numlock keyboard light go on and off still if he presses the numlock key. does the pc power off a few seconds after he presses the power button

did he swap the hdmi cable and ports and with a different brand one ?

@PA: Both now his monitor and TV doesn't gives signal anymore. He tried a brand new 2m UGREEN HDMI 2.1 cable (For future upgrades) and still nothing

I can't know now because he's gonna end up sending the tower to a technician. I already told him to put his old GPU to see if it's the 3000 series GPU's fault or not

He's gonna put a new PSU (CORSAIR RMX 1000W, there was no 850W version close to him) but i'll let ya know what happens

@SW: His monitor, mentioned before, does NOT have a DP port.. Only 1 VGA and 1 HDMI

After these tries i think 3 things:

-The 3000 GPU given to him was starting to fail and ended up fucked up
-The GPU , wich's PCI-E 4.0, was placed in a PCI-E 3.0 mobo. Could work, but works less
-The GPU was maybe not inserted properly in the PCI-E slot and ended up fucking it up somehow the mobo

Again, will let ya know what happens. Thanks for the help so far

Well, he got his PC back. Tech guy was very lazy explaining to him , saying something about "the cables" but the tech guy installed the new PSU mentioned before (No coil whine when the PSU is plugged without anything else) and so far no issues. My friend even said "Performance seemed to have improved"

Probably the old PSU couldn't handle the 3000 GPU and fucked up... Now it should.

Thanks for the help!

I've had the same issue. Replaced the PSU. Things were fine for a couple of months afterwards and then the same shit happened again. In retrospect I think replacing the PSU worked cause it also cleaned the case a bit better.

Replacing the GPU fixed it for good. Although afterburner had good temps, it was a heat issue. Probably hotspots cause of poor paste or local damage. I repasted the thing later on for sports but never bothered giving the GPU a second shot. Pretty sure it was a paste issue cause the gpu always crashed after 5-10 minutes at max loads. Then after a reboot, things were stable, probably cause the warmer paste did a good enough job.

Long story short: if the problem returns repaste GPU or buy a new one.
