Grounded 2 is coming to Game Preview on July 29, 2025
Shrunk again, but the world is much larger. In this open-world, single-player or co-op survival adventure, craft weapons and armor, build your base, and traverse the playground on your buggy. But something else is out there—and it hasn’t forgotten you.
My review after 50 (60?)+ hours (and 2-3 restarts in that time due to new friends joining so they get it from the start).
TLDR: ARK Lite. ARK...like...for best comparison of all the survival games I can think of.
But more linear due to story progression. Many upgrades, items, whatever locked behind storyline.
One (well two, but one is late game) mounts and you cannot tame all things like ark (can't tame anything, you hatch your mount), and base building roughly the same concept.
Maybe like Valheim, but not quite. More like ARK 'backyard mini edition'.
Gameplay is fun, gear is 'meh' it has roles for gear types (ranged, melee, tank) but after trying them we just wear whatever we can make highest tier we have. Doesn't seem to affect enough to care.
Combat is...ok. left click spamfest with basic blocking or holding left click to charge an attack. It has dodge mechanics, never needed it. Block when they show they are about to attack -> beat the hell out of them otherwise.
Runs fine for me, 120 locked and stays there (7800x3D and 4080). Can't run it on epic setting and "all the things" but turning off the minor things runs fine and looks the same to me unless I stare and look for it.

Obsidian Entertainment has revealed details about some of the content coming to Grounded 2 as the survival crafting title continues its stint in Early Access. In an interview during the New Game+ Showcase, creative director Justin Vazquez and game director Chris Parker have confirmed that the first major content update for Grounded 2—referred to internally as the Winter update—will bring with it a host of new things such as a brand new biome with the addition of the community garden section to the map, as well as new insects inhabiting the zone.
“Going to a new biome, a new area in the park allows us to fully lean into what makes the park unique from the backyard [from Grounded],” said Vazquez. “For us that means that mixture of really organic structures as well as that man-made touch, that this was designed by humans at the human level.” The biome will also mark the return of wasps and black ants, each of which will have their own sets of armour and weapons. Some of the newer creatures coming to the game are crickets and two different types of earwigs.
Along with all of this new content, the update will also bring with it things like a new ladybug buggy that will allow players to travel across the map at a faster pace, as well as serve as the tank in epic battles. To help in fights, the ladybuggy will be equipped with a water cannon on its back, giving players more utility in tackling aerial insects.
Release date will be announced next week on the 13th, they said they had good news, so I hope it's not February like they originally planned.
Some bits from reddit (also from the trailer):
Garden:
There are many different areas in the garden, like, a lot a lot of different areas, green house, pumpkin patch, carrot/potato garden, underground burrows, scarecrow, and much more.
The developers said in this interview that the "Picnic Area" (the entire current playable space of G2) was designed to ease players into the game and remind them of G1, this biome will be harder, and the players will really be able to see the identity and "NEW" that G2 can bring (I mean... just LOOK at Axl)
Pumpkin Patch
You can go inside pumpkins and get resources from inside of them
@headshot Just a few caps from the video and text from reddit, cba doing anything else.
Haven't played since the Christmas Update since they introduced a crashing issue that they hadn't bothered solving so far, but keen to shoot down some wasps when this one gets out
