It's only one review and dosen't represent all the aspects of the game.

I don´t consider that 7.4 is a bad game. It´s just not an awesome game like we all wanted, but it can be a nice game to play. In gamespot, a 7 mark is a good game.

Seems like it ain't gonna live up to the hype, which is too bad, but it still can be an enjoyable game and I agree, 7,4 is not a bad score at all.

Fuck reviews, make up your own mind. They also gave Godfather 8+/10, but the game actually is worth less than 6 (especially PC version) imo.

After all it was developed for XBOX too, they cant just release simple point ant click game on a console coz no Halo kiddie will ever buy it. I saw what happened when Syberia was released on XBOX, comments such as: "OMG wtf is this shit", "old crappy game".

If it's anything like Broken Sword 3 and Fahrenheit I'll love it Smile

I enjoyed syberia. Lets hope the review was wrong. but adventure games are so rare and when they're sequels to very good ones, the hype often doesnt correspond to the real stuff.
I just can't understand why the devs decided to introduce light action/stealth elements when the game was known for its story&puzzles goodness.
I guess another proof of submission to console kiddies...

its the 4.0 they gave the gameplay that bothers me. It could have the greatest story ever written but if it plays like shit it takes the fun away

Yeah! That worries me too... But games that I totally disagree with the score from gamespot is XIII and Re-Volt. Those were two games that I really enjoyed playing. And XIII got a 6.4 and Re-Volt a 6.5. So the reviews sometimes are totally different from your own opinion. I just hope that this is another case Very Happy

The release date hasn't changed. I wish game publishers could get their shit together and have a firm release date for their products--you don't see music or movie releases that say Monday when they really mean Wednesday or Thursday. Music and movies come out on Tuesdays, and every store that sells the stuff has it in stock on that day, pretty much without fail.

The IGN review was done by an xbox editor whose only previous adventure game review was Fahrenheit. At least he said that he'd played and liked TLJ, but I still take his review with a massive grain of salt.

Gamespot's review should be up soon, and it will be written by Greg Kasavin who is one of their few good reviewers in my opinion. His initial comments on his GS profile:

GregK wrote:
I just finished Dreamfall, which ships this week. Considering the quality of the story and presentation of The Longest Journey, its predecessor, I went in with fairly high hopes. I wasn't disappointed. Last night, in fact, I had pretty much become convinced that the game was just utterly amazing. Normally when games have spoken dialogue and subtitles, I honestly tend to skip through a lot of the speech. But this game's dialogue is so good, I did something I've never done in a game before: I turned off the subtitles and just watched and listened. Dreamfall is first and foremost an amazing story. But, man, I wish it went on...

Anyway, I need to play the PC version more (looks even better on the PC but couldn't resist playing on a bigscreen TV) and still need to gather my thoughts before I commit to a review. But here's some informal advice on the side, and what I expect the review is going to boil down to: If you appreciate games for their storytelling ability, you need to play this game. It's exciting, moving, dramatic, funny, scary, touching...seriously.

And yet...damn it. Give me five more hours.

So I'm expecting around a 9.0 or so from his review based on that. I can't see it getting a higher score than the original game (which was a 9.3), but anything 8.5 or higher should mitigate whatever damage the IGN one caused.

its hard to take any one of the big review sites word on adventure games, the reviewers probably sit down to each new adventure game screaming "wheres the aliens?!!? how do i shoot?!" the best reviews of adventure games come from the adventure game sites themselves, who understand how they work, although it sucks that adventure games suffer because these big sites review scores can put off the casual gamer

Exactly my point!
The GregK comment looks promising, but at the end we all have to make our own Score.

Greg Kasavin review is out! 8.1 Great.
That´s good!

The gameplay is pretty light, but it does a good job of not obstructing the story. It makes sense in the context of the plot, and it's varied enough to stay interesting.

The game is of a decent length and will probably take you about 10 hours to finish the first time, but you'll feel like there was enough material left on the cutting-room floor for at least another five hours or so.

That was the quote that caught my eye. TLJ took around 30 hours to finish, and that's assuming you got some hints along the way. It's pretty sad when people start calling 10 hour games, "decent length," especially an adventure game. It sounds like the last act of the game is going to have the same sort of disappointment that Fahrenheit did. Sad

Ah well, still worth buying to support Funcom so they will hopefully make another one, but I definitely don't see myself coughing up $65 for the limited edition.

Good? That's fantastic for a Kasavin review. He underrates every game he gets his hands on.

Woot. Waiting for this one to be ripped. Smile

GAMESPY gives it an incredible 5/5
-------------
Pros
Incredible storyline; strong dialogue; phenomenal art direction; some fun mini-games; good gamepad controls.
Cons
Stealth sections; poor fighting system; clunky keyboard-and-mouse controls.
-----------------------------
quote of the bad things found:

"There are a few things that detract from the Dreamfall experience. First, there are the controls. With the move to a full 3D presentation, the controls have been changed to an awkward keyboard-and-mouse system that makes it difficult to properly orient the camera and use inventory items. On the bright side, all of these problems go away when using a proper control pad. Second, there's the addition of a poor fighting system that's nothing but a confused button-mashing affair, and some "stealth" sequences that are even worse than the fighting system. Fortunately, these action-adventure sequences make up a very tiny portion of the game, are mostly optional, and are usually short and easy -- only one unavoidable section in the Necropolis was frustrating, requiring a few deaths and reloads to get things right."
