I wouldn't call it super optimized but calling it ugly is a bit too far. The artstyle is strong enough in this game (especially the environment) and it ran well enough on my 3060 with reasonable settings.
But in comparison to the old ways of doing things, yeah it's not as smooth.
the music is definitely one of the strongest points of this game.
Finally a game that is not afraid to put it's music in the spotlight. Most games nowadays only have something playing along in the background, god forbid you actually draw the attention to it.

- Albert Camus
The game is undeniably a work of love, but all its traits straight from the console JRPG planet are tough for me to stomach and the isocroissant was sadly dropped into the bin. The overly melodramatic tone, artificial level design, ghastly UI with giant button prompts, floating numbers and animu-like flashy effects -- expectedly, not my cup of wine.
Props to the devs though, they deserve the spotlight for setting a positive example (which is a rarity) and for giving the fans what they wanted.
