Gaming laptop cooling solutions BARELY work and have a much higher failure rate. This is on midrange gpu/cpu combo let alone something beastly like a 5090. That's why they're all power limited just to last a year or two before becoming ewaste and replaced. Most gaming laptop owners are kids that never ever clean the fans from dust buildup or use them properly allowing for enough space for enough air circulation. Without power limits they wouldn't last a week.
THe laptop 5090 is actually a 5080 but with the price of 5090 plus extra $+
They need more power 170W hardly enough, maybe a separate power supply box that you can plug into your laptop when gaming, at least 350-400W.
I mean it's kind of always been that way that the laptop version is kind of the equivalent of then next lower gpu desktop version, but it's not quite the same.
I'm also going to say, that whatever the fuck laptop that guy was using is either really shit, or he has no idea how to set up a laptop to actually you know ... get good performance.
The actual benchmarks, most of what he's shown are worse then, or at best similar to mine, whilst I have a 4080 laptop. There is no universe his average fps should be that low in a lot of those games. I just don't know. I bet he does no undervolt on either gpu or cpu and just gets thermal throttled constantly. People have no clue how to use a laptop for gaming I swear.
Like mine is around 20% weaker than what I'd get with a 4080 desktop. Realistically though, my power consumption is also about 2-4 times less than what a full desktop pc with similar specs would be. At what point is the extra power just a waste?
⚠️ Avoid 8 GB VRAM GPUs – Modern games demand more VRAM; 8 GB cards will struggle with current and future titles. Only consider if on a very tight budget and willing to lower settings.
🛑 RTX 5060 – Performs like a 4060 Ti but only has 8 GB VRAM, making it a poor long-term investment. Avoid entirely.
🚫 RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB – Strong GPU but bottlenecked by 8 GB VRAM, especially at 1440p. Opt for the 16 GB version instead.
💸 RTX 5090 – Overkill for gaming, extremely expensive, hard to cool, and power-hungry. Better for professional workloads (AI, video editing, 3D).
❌ Intel Arc B570 – Overshadowed by the B580 and priced close to RTX 4060; not worth it compared to more stable or powerful alternatives.
⚡ RX 9070 – Undercuts its sibling RX 9070 XT and faces pricing issues; RTX 5070 is a better gaming choice with features like CUDA cores and lower power consumption.
✅ Recommended: Intel Arc B580 – Excellent price-to-performance, 12 GB VRAM, better power management, good for 1080p and some 1440p gaming.
🎯 Recommended: RTX 5070 – Supports more features than RX 9070, 12 GB VRAM, good alternative if priced well despite minor 1440p bottlenecks.
💎 Recommended: RX 9070 XT – 16 GB VRAM, strong gaming performance, Frame Generation support, slightly higher power draw, watch for stock issues.
🖥️ Recommended: RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB – Comparable to RX 7700 XT, better features like Multi-Frame Generation and ray tracing, but watch for price fluctuations.
💰 Recommended: RX 9060 XT 16 GB – Competitive with RTX 5060 Ti, excellent price-to-performance ratio, 16 GB VRAM essential for modern games, but lacks some RTX features.
imo anyone with RTX 3000 cards has very little reason to upgrade unless they're into that FG hogwash. Especially just for gaming.
AI is insanely VRAM hungry, you can't give it enough VRAM. That's why there are custom job 128GB VRAM 4090's/5090's out in china they modified themselves.
We're in a real pickle as consumers.
A: Nvidia adds more VRAM to their consumer cards > AI buyers swallow them up before they even hit shelves.
B: Nvidia keeps being stingy with VRAM > Less interest from AI buyers but games run like shit as they're optimized for higher VRAM PS5's
There is a real reason the only consumer cards with any VRAM worth a damn are worth thousands and beyond most people's budgets: they're used by smaller companies/professionals that can't afford hangars filled with racks of $40k GPU's for AI workloads and will get their money back plus profit.
if money's an issue it's wise to just bide one's time until the bubble bursts.

Yeah, but muh 8GB VRAMzzzz

I'm still thinking about upgrading, but at least +200€ for a 5070ti when compared to the last time is hard to justify
And AMD's recent stunt with that game specific optimizations isn't exactly a good omen for a 9070XT.
Decisions decisions

And not even because of that, we're starting to see very good implementations of FG by AMD like in Battlefield 6, where I'm getting constant 120 fps on my 3060 Ti without virtually any input lag to be felt or any noticeable visual artifacts, at least when compared to what I've experienced in other games like CP2077.
I should've been smarter that this.... I lucked out and saw 5080fe available for first time in a long time and grabbed one.
I am stull on 2020 corsair rm750x psu. think I will just give it a try with nvidia 5080fe power adapter. I only have 5700x3d so should be fine I suppose?!

Still expensive the 5080, especially for 16GB of Vram.
This, FFS KC
Probably the absolute worst card you could buy
I know but what else would I get?
5090 is 2x the price (and unavailable founders anyway)
I have 10gb on my 3080 and shit is limiting. So 5080 16gb will be fine for a while.
Super cards will be delayed and probably expensive anyway

9070XT or 5070ti men.
I was thinking about the 5070ti, but more and more I can't justify paying 750-790 yuros (and that is with some heavy black friday discounts on top) for one
