I tried my best making it as simple as possible, rather than making a 'female protag will always be shite. Outliers exist.' type contradicting statement which means nothing but seems profound only to the person who wrote it
We've barely seen anything from the trailer and you're making assumptions based on nothing, it's just correct to call it out what it is.
Bodes ill tbh. After all the shite games and series lately, i'd think they make a male oriented one (as is natural) and be proud of it.
Not yours? Almost every Star Wars game except Outlaws has been male oriented, for idk over 20 years
It's a bullshit argument and lack of (simple) research really.
1. Heroes tend to be male in storytelling. This is just human nature
2. Outlaws flopped and people hated the protagonist.
And for some games a female protagonist is fine and it works. But it has to fit the story and setting. For instance kill bill: it makes sense there that our violent sword fighting hero is a female. Or Ciri in the Witcher. Playing Zelda echoes of the kingdom right now as Zelda. Sure this is not your typical action title, but even there the devs tried hard to make Zelda not just a male link. She is Zelda, our female hero, more of a mage then a Sword fighter.
What doesn't work is your avarage non binair though "independent" female hero that only appeals to feminists and lesbians that you see every more in western AAA games that just plays the male hero role but as a female. Noboddy likes that shit.
they don't even have concept artists yet, so this is like a decade away. well, maybe 7-8 years if lucky.
who cares that they decided to show the female, if it's at least slightly similar to the original you will be able to choose, if not, then i'm not very interested. Though yes, females in SW has left a kind of sour taste! The protagonist in Outlaws, Rey, the whole thing with the female oriented Acolyte. People are fed up.

A short cinematic trailer and Hudson alone are way too little for the seasoned bear even to try to form an opinion. We'll see, I guess - assuming that the game won't meet the same Fate(tm) as Eclipse
@friketje Why are you not letting it end there? If you think I am stunned by such a deep argument of 'it's human nature' garbage you're wrong mate I don't care who the protag is, only whether the game is good or not. Shit female lead = shit male lead, period
Keep fighting the 'good' fight, eventually they'll make non-w0ke men-fuck-men games again as they don't even exist right now, no good games released in the past 15 years, time to put your lack of testosterone into posts about a woman walking with a cloak, posting it on a piracy forum standing on it's legs.

Uhm you must have mistaken this for a pc games related forum. Here we talk about gender politics!
I just don't expect anything from this game. Actually that's a lie, I have negative expectations. Just let KotOR die with dignity. It's been too long, and I don't trust anyone to do it justice.
A bunch of has-been-hacks trying to make some money off nostalgia.
I mean they need a win more than anything right about now. Theirs movies have been shit and they've not released one in ages, the mandalorian bs is gonna flop. Their TV shows have been shit outside of Andor, and barely anyone watched it.
The games haven't been great either, especially Outlaws. I mean the only good games have been the Fallen Order games, they're solid, but realistically even though they sold well, barely anyone talks about them. Star Wars is kind of a dying franchise.
I think they're making a mistake if that's the case though. The same mistake Paradox did with Vampire the Masquarade Bloodlines. Thinking the name will sell regardless.
No, while KotOR was more popular and successful than Bloodlines, it still isn't that massive of a game, and the core fanbase is old, and more likely to be angry with you if you fuck it up even a bit, then buy it just cause.
That's what happens when you overexpose the fanbase with tons of bullshit content again and again. You don't let people build the mythos in their head, you kill it with pre-made fountains of piss poor lore.
I picked the female in Cyberpunk since I prefer to look at a female backside over some dudes backside, esp. if I'm playing a game that is 30+ hours long.

+1 but only if the voice actress is good or I can choose a good one.

It's a first person game, afaik. mods and maybe updates might have changed it, idk. i'd never play it in third person personally.
The whole "i prefer to look at a woman's ass" is overall a stupid argument i think, and you see it often. Do you mean if you're walking outside and you have male people in front of you, you can't help looking at their ass? why are you gay?
i play a dude because i am a dude, i never played with dolls because i am not a girl, i played with action figures, male ones, its how i still play
If i play male OR female (if i cant chose) i dont stare at the ass or much at my character at all actually, its not where my focus is because i would constantly walk into things and get killed
It's not about the ass. It's the whole female aesthetic vs male one.
In CRPGs (Pillars, Baldur, Pathfinder etc.), where YOU PLAY YOURSELF, yea, you prob. will select a male.
But in action-rpg games with third person camera... preferring to see a nice female on screen is not unusual at all.
in action games its not a big issue, Tomb Raider, etc. but yes, CP 2077 is a typical game where i "play myself".
While playing female in a game isn't close to wearing female underwear perhaps, its still a little... weird. But yes, i am very much a kid playing with his action figures or roleplaying, when i play games still. its probably not like that for everyone.
I don't know man. I see roleplaying as just that, playing a role. And the gender ain't all that relevant to it. Lot of role-playing games I play the suave charisma character, which I am very much not in real life, quite the opposite really as I'm a very straight forward, some would say abrasive person, and I really don't care about making friends.
So just like that ain't who I am, it's the same with playing a female character. It's not that deep to where I have to basically have gender dysphoria to play the opposite sex. That's not to say I don't actually get close to the main character, and you can identify with a character without being them irl. Just like I can like and identify with Blade when I watch the 98 movie, despite me not being black.... or a vampire.
@Kezmark No worries, it's not that deep for anyone else either.
Our vurt is … special. It is known. Next, he'll call us woke for not caring what gender the character is, or worse, gender traitors for actively choosing the opposite!
