Definitely my GOTY as well. But I can see why it didn't win in today's scene since it's far less zoomer friendly than weebxpedition 33 and the writing will often fly over their heads.
Exp 33 was a decent game with good visuals and fantastic music but it's a very linear Jrpg. KCD2 actually offers choices, a big world to get lost in and plenty of choices in quests. The writing being a little too grown up for "Today's audience" and the setting being for history nerds might be why it didn't win over zoomer animu waifu magic rpg.
I've been replaying late last generation games, and it's amazing how well their graphics hold up. That's 8-10 years old games. Meanwhile these clowns are pushing technology that can be faked relatively easily (and has been), while increasing cost tenfold.

Yup, graphics were more than good enough a decade ago at this point. We could easily have capped graphical expectations and focused on other improvements.
Good times though. You basicaly have an endless catalogue of games to enjoy. While in the past everything past 2-3 years old was unplayable.
Yup, and I'm routinely playing games that are 30+ years old at this point. There will always be things to play on PC, there is already more unplayed existing games than I could reasonably get through in my lifetime.
I'm doing 3rd attempt to KCD but this time using a controller instead of KB+M, and finally fighting clicked with me so there is a chance I will finish it this time
