I’m currently rewatching TOS and added Star Trek Continues to my watch. What I’m not rewatching is all the Kurz-Trek slop. Academy is a hard pass. Its not for me.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Its gonna be so amazingly cringe. The writers team is over two thirds female. The Youtube video reviews will be glorious!

It looks worse than expected. And I expected very bad.

Jesus goddamn christ what kind of abomination is this? Some gen z series i expect quite few will watch. I guess they are scrambling to make star trek for more audiences after discovery, picard and new worlds.
I watched them both
The first ep was pretty ok actually, obviously big budget and lots of action to hook the viewers.
Then ep2 rather meh, massive downshifting and the young adult romance crap and Gen Z way of speaking is starting to show, it is probably only downhill from there.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Already Looks Like a Flop as Free YouTube Premiere Yields Low Viewership and Mass Dislikes
…
When the episode debuted on YouTube, the live premiere peaked at roughly 1,300 concurrent viewers
…
In the 11 hours following its release, the episode managed to pull in approximately 16,000 total views — figures that would be disappointing for a mid-level creator, let alone a studio-backed series meant to support a major streaming platform.
…
At the time of writing, the premiere was sitting at around 1.3k likes versus more than 2k dislikes, meaning the episode was already ratio’d by a very small sample of viewers. That’s a problem, because free premieres are supposed to generate goodwill — not immediate rejection.

Gene Roddenberry’s STAR TREK was about science, exploration, bold concepts, high ideals, and ethics—the best and brightest of a diverse humanity bravely pushing back the unknown and working with intelligent beings from other worlds to build a better future for all.
Alex Kurtzman’s STAR TREK is about creating glossy emotional support entertainment designed to comfort insecure twenty-somethings via the sharing of their personal “truths,” talking about their feelings and doubts, and validating their own obvious awesomeness.
At the risk of starting something here, you know what would be great for the 60th anniversary of this beloved franchise? Can we please return it to its roots?
