That's great. At least I won't feel instant regret after buying 5080fe month ago.
I really enjoy it

So you need a 5090 to run Oblivion Remaster smooth at 240p? And probably still stutters like a motherfucker.
Achieved with Unreal Angina 5

So long RTX 5070 Ti, so long RTX 5080 under 1500€ or maybe even closer to 2000€. RTX 5090s are hoarded for AI around the world.
Also, goodluck to everyone facing RMAs in the future with your RTX 50 cards.
What a situation to be in.

The speculation on Reddit is that someone bought both cards and returned the 5060 Ti inside the 5080 box, and since they weight the same (or some additional weight was added), it was not flagged as suspicious by Amazon automation or the overworked plant workers. I mean, what a shitty system they have there…

Someone returning a functional GPU cause "at second thought, this is not what I want" is rather suspicous anyway, the fuck did you expect to get?? So the only reason to return it is when it's broken since sending it back for money is better then asking for warranty.
So you would assume that a retailer checks the product and also tests it if it works for products at this price level. There is a very high chance it's broken and perhaps the original buyer just didn't bother to report the issue. It seems unlikely that you can just return a different GPU. And in the end, even if your GPU does slips through, you'll always get caught like in this case. It's rather stupid.
Someone switching the thing at a depot also seems highly unlikely. Good luck doing that unnoticed.
So I wouldn't rule out that the buyer is the actual scammer. Posting a reddit topic helps, companies don't want bad PR and making this public increases the chances of succes.

Plenty of people send back functioning GPUs and CPUs simply because they do not OC/UV as well as they want them to. People sometimes order several CPUs/GPUs, test the chips and only keep the best one.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Perhaps. Also the thing not fitting in the case could be a reason.
But it's seems likely retailers check the returned GPU's. It's a 5 minute job. It's worth the effort. Besides the cost of returning the thing again, the customer that receives a broken GPU that is obviously not in the original package is not a happy one.

This is something I have always admire about the US customer support; you can return just about anything you don’t like, including shoes and clothes, after you’ve tried them for a while, let alone electronics, where there are multitude of irrational points of failure (“the fan noise on this particular card irks me to no end”). The retailers just eat it and don’t even look at you funny, unlike EU or here in Israel.

It’s even more complicated BTW. Retailer cannot just reseal a package and sell it as new. Returned items are sold as “open box”, usually with considerable discount. Most likely the scamee here purchased such a product. Still doesn’t excuse Amazon dumbos.

I "suffered" similar fate. I bought external hard disk (for backups). It got delayed in June due to our 12 day Israel-Iran "cultural" exchange and subsequent flights delays. I contacted amazon support, they practically immediately refunded me. The next day cease fire was signed, flights were resumed, I got the package and decided to keep it. So I contacted them numerous times requesting to charge me again. At first, there was hope they would, I was receiving emails that if I don't return the disk by some date I'd be charged which was exactly what I wanted. That date passed, and nothing happened. I kept calling support, but as time went by even all those multiple different Mohinders from amazon support had to acknowledge I probably will never be charged as their system is not built for that.
I could have returned the item of course, but why should I?
P.S. I had to login thru VPN (US IP) this last few hours. Thru my native Israeli IP nfohump won't load or load extremely slowly. I wonder why, it usually never happens.

I bought a resealed 5090. Why? Because MSI suprim, and that was out of stock in Hungary since forever (and it is the best 5090 imho). A decentish 5090 here goes for around 4k+ euros already (and climbing), and I got mine for 2200 2 weeks ago. Yes, it is a reseal.
This one was MAYBE put inside a machine once, but it appears completely untouched. UVs very well, and this is my very first card in around 10 years with zero coil whine even at 200 fps. Lucky.
The reason for the price PROBABLY was the law, that they had to drop a percentage based off the original price it was ordered at. (who knows, how long this dude waited for this card, before sending it back).

Congrats! Now you can smoothly upscale 240p Unreal Angina 5 crap at 60fps with frame generation.
