I find it odd how popular this dude's games are. Can't play this for the same reason I can't play Binding of Isaac - neither the art-style nor the premise appeal to me in any way. People seem to love it though...
Well, I'd put an equals sign between at least the first one and the last one
Sodas are kinda shit as well, so in reality - not that much of a difference either
Big downside though is that this game does not respect your time. A full run takes over an hour and you can only return to base after the end of a stage and when you lose you lose all progress including your cats. I suck at these kind of games, but for the more gifted player there is also serious RNG. Have your healer screwed by an event. GG. Face the wrong boss. GG.
Even safe scumming (to safe some time) isn't possible.
Devs are boasing this game takes over 200 hours to complete.
After spending some time with it the game becomes better. Awesome game. Slay the spire is the only roguelike I spend some time with, this is way more fun then that one.
I'm also somewhere in the mid of chapter 2 and while it's somewhat fun, it's already becoming repetitive. All the dungeon runs go through three stages. It feels like stats don't matter much, you just need to have luck rolling the right skills, and finding good items for your party, during the first stage of each dungeon. It feels like each class has a good and bad skill path, with good one, it becomes unstoppable, with bad, it'll be useless. Then you can either steamroll to victory, or bail out on a run, or get stomped by later stage bosses. There's a lot of needed repetition involved. You need to reenter dungeons to complete side and main quests. You need to upgrade vendors by gifting them used cats whose requirement usually going to the same dungeons again. And each dungeon run starts with completely new cats, that are then retired after each run, so you always start from ground up, meaning that there's hardly any sense of progression. Yes, you upgrade house, and buy items that help your new cats start with slightly better stats, but stats are really not that important, so even house building is just another tedious time waste.
Agree the game is to grindy for the sake of being grindy. Progress is to slow and you'll end up doing the same run over and over. The game also encourages you sometimes to just quit a run earlier by offering rewards that are to risky to lose. Had a cat that got 9 positive mutations during a run with the downside that is corpse is gone when is dies. So you're supposed to quit that run asap to save the cat. Same with furniture you'll get during runs, it's to good to lose. Just cheap tricks to increase the lenght of the game.
Stats do matter though and you can have insane mutant cats.
In the end it's a roguelike. The fun is about doing runs if you feel like it and have fun and perhaps completion and progression isn't the most important thing
