Had the usual utubers in the background today at work, and consensus is that it's total shit.

I finally gave this game a shot (no idea why) and I don't regret never trying it before.
It's a typical Bethesda mediocre RPG. The writing is pretty dull and often laughable. The UI is absolute garbage. The character progression is the worst in the series.
Someone who tested first version. i am at v0.4 already, there are 100+ changes and additions so its very different now, it has TB stepped movement and tons of other things to make it more like a real TB game.
...that's why its optional. its a button press and you are out of it.
That turn based takes more time is probably nothing new to anyone playing TB games though.
And I guess you did not play fallout 1-2, because you kill rats etc in turn based, simple or not its TB all the way there.
Enemy turns are speed up too, same as you can do in FO1-2. kind of funny because it makes them talk like the smurfs (if they say something during the turn), i tink i will leave it at that too
