What would be the REAL! benefit if I changed to Windows XP Professional x64.
I am now running XP Pro 32 bit.
Running a AMD 64 4000+
Ofcourse I am mostly gaming and watching vids etc.

The biggest benefit would be no memory cap. Want 6 GIGS, just put it in and it works ! Smile Oh, and better perfomance for games and apps that support 64 bit instructions.

ofcourse there are probs Razz

I don't know if you remember the painful crossing from 16 bits to 32 but it took a decade Razz

I mean...it's 64 bits...right now you have everything in 32 bit and there are no guarantees that a 32 bit application would run on 64 bit systems (which they mostly don't or the perfomance is crap like 16 bit application in 32 bit environment).

64 bit right now is the sandbox for servers not desktops. It might get actual in 2009 for desktops if not even later.

Hmmm, I might just give this a bit of whait...sounds like a good weekend project to get all stuff running after a x64 install...or maybe eaven whait for Vista.
Another thing, does x64 run SP2? I have been looking around and maybe I am reading old stuff but everywhere it says SP1 only, is it so?

Never a truer word spoken.. Im glad there are people who dont spout the "OOOO BUT ITS TWICE THE BITS!!!!" crap.. Its going to be a while before 64bit desktop OS's are needed/improve the desktop experience in a worthwhile way..
