The software relies on hardware identifiers, reported by the motherboard. If the motherboard spoofs all the right identifiers, not much the software can do. Maybe it can compare some frequencies and cache sizes, but not all of that is a definite indicator of fraud; in laptops, manufacturer has leeway to undervolt and underclock a CPU and/or a GPU to hit a certain power and/or thermal limit.
In a perfect world, you'd think that AMD would respond to this and it would kick a shitstorm to protect its IP. Let's see. I suspect money is more important, and pushing that old stock is likely free money for AMD right now.

Sounds like AMD's press team don't want to lose sales by using a more fitting word like fraudulently (which IS a real word).
