Couldn't care less that its animated, i guess i don't see it that way. I don't see that disconnect at all really, but i have played quite a few games that works like this.
Same with dice rolls, I have zero issues with it working like that. But sure, it would be great if all games including FPS games and turn based were more detailed like that, absolutely. But on the other hand, i am not sure i want too much dev time put into it either, making something else suffer which might be far more important for gameplay.
