This game is strange. The story is meh, but the world is just one of the best open worlds I've seen (if not the best). I usually plan to spend just an hour or two and end up spending 6 or more doing some stupid shit.
It is kind of "time waster" kind of game, but with not MTX involved and that is what is enticing for me (and maybe others). I've paid for it once and have the whole package with some QOL and other minor patches being released every now and then.
If this would have CP2077 or Witcher kind of story and storytelling this would be a GOTY contender for sure. Now I would say this might win best graphic and best artistic design at best. We are still early in the year and there are some good titles still coming like Gothic, GTA, Kena that can easily swipe those.
And as it will be for sure on my "games I really enjoy to play" list, It wouldn't make it a GOTY for sure as story and narrative wise, it is a wasted potential.
I don't think i ever really grasped the story in Elden Ring, yet its absolutely one of my favorite games. DS, same thing. I also really love Zelda TotK, story-wise that game is laughable.
Story matters but for games its to 99% garbage or very slightly better than garbage I enjoyed ultima 7's in my youth, some adventure games + PS:T. that's about it.
Use axiom force to remove the core:
1. Press tab and aim at the core
2. Hold Q at all time
3. Then try to decipher what does a blinking mouse with 4 arrows means: Which translates to pressing the left mouse button while continuously moving the mouse forward.
4. Fight a boss that's a lesson in bad design.
I dont think ive seen a single person claim the controls are amazing for this game tbh, not even the "fanboys".
Its one of the reason i have it on hold + current constant stream of new patches, just not worth playing when its very much a WIP. Annoying but its where we are with games
? zekkere1 said they were "fine", not seen anyone on here saying they are amazing, 99% in the thread have said they are bad/shit. The little i have played, i thought it was ok, but i have not engaged in puzzles or anything too advanced so its not my final take
game jurnos are trash, game media is trash. i have literally no idea why are they having problems with controls, its not like there arent milion pop ups and info about them rotfl, also its not that fking hard, cmon. but to who am i even talking, game jurnos idiots cant finish easy ass tutorials in platformer or play like retarted. kojima was right, special mode with immortality and with everything x times easier, just for game media lol. seen somewhere that dude had problems with jumping on platforms, when u literally have precision jump controls, ffs whats wrong with those people.
There's pages of people wondering what the fuck to do in certain situations and videos trying to shed light on the misleading prompts, even for controllers.
The deeper you go, the more bloated the game mechanics are. There's no logical reason from a gameplay or narrative standpoint to have the punch and the focused punch to break a fucking wall, besides the pushing and the axiom pushing. Or to use the light of the sword to look for the weak spot of an enemy when the weak spot is its fucking body.
On the plus side, I love the effort they put in the fauna (and flora). Seeing an eagle dive for a fish was peak. The hippos are a bit too pacifistic, but you can't have it all.

I too am mad its so successful cause its kind of bad
Not on a technical level mind you.. but otherwise its just bland and uninspired
Everyone has their opinion but imo:
This is the first single player game of a studio.
It had an odd development cycle and was supposedly shifted from MMO to sp game.
Does that excuse all the faults and short comings?
Ofc not but fact is it's their first game and it has enough to offer to ppl for it to succeed and sell miliions of copies.
Doesn't mean everyone has to like it but not everyone has to hate it either. Plus they are trying to fix the short comings. For how long ? We'll see I guess.
Maybe their second game will be much better.
More competition+ potential of the dev can be good.
I doubt Bethesda or UBI-slop are too happy with its success, that in itself is a win They have to step it up, this is a small and very inexperienced and new studio in comparison.
What i often miss in many of these new open world games are more traditional fantasy creatures. I was thinking the same when i saw Mortal Shell 2... everything has to be "weird", "unique". Instead it just turns into generic mush.
I appreciate it in Elden Ring and DS because they are actual artists, they can do them justice. In these games with less talented artists, they should stick to the classics, Harpies, Skeletons and Zombies, Golems, Goblins. I think Dragons Dogma 1 did this in a good way.
Lightning in these videos looks so weird. The sunny parts look too bright and the shady parts are too dark. I had similar issue in Clair Obscur: E33. Was almost impossible to see anything inside some caves. But higher brightness pierced my eyes in outside areas.
this game is ... terrible.
I got like 15 hours in it.
First I did like 4 chapters of the story which was AWFUL. Like... makes no sense. Even bad for mmo quest design.
Then I see that everyone is saying "ignore the story, do the exploration!!!!"
So I explore a ton, run in that direction, run in that direction... and there is kinda nothing?
Sure you find a cave or a bandit camp but ... i'ts kinda nothing? world feels like a huge window dressing.
And some parts of the world are wholly aggressive to you if you dont progress past chapter 8... so those "jsut explore" people are full of shit
5080 | ps5 pro
Sin317-"im 31 years old and still surprised at how much shit comes out of my ass actually ..."
SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"

True, you can't actually explore in this game. For most you'll run into a lot of stuff that's locked behind quests that you haven't unlock and often the game doesn't even tell you like that abandoned factory quest early on. The game literaly begs you to solve that one and it's between 2 sidequests that you do have, but it's locked untill a couple of hours later and the game doesn't tell you.
You're supposed to follow quests and be distracted in the area you are questing, that's the game.
Somehow it works though and I still do not understand why this game is fun, but it's a great experience. I'm past the 50 hours point were basicaly every other game (for me) becomes tedious but this is still fun.

For me personally this game is fun not the best game ever mind you but a solid 8/10.
Dunno if it will make sense to people but this for me is the equivalent of Euro Truck Simulator but for an open world action game.
I come from work want to chill do some casual "questing" without much thought and absorbing a beautiful scenery I just play this. Sometimes if i do want just a little more complexity I port to the abyss and do some puzzleing. (Disclaimer: I'm not too far in yet)
Imo ppl forget that this game has many things in common with Elden Ring. Elden Ring has almost all the same weaknesses this game has but it gets saved by boss moves and variety/amount of bosses and imo slightly superior exploration/ superior combat (while the combat here isnt too bad).

This .
It's very relaxing. And the devs did a great job with the open world.
The games just throws a lot of stuff at you, but most of it takes 5 minutes and then you'll do something else so you don't get bored. And the world map is so big that it feels fresh all the time and the game smartly pushes you back and forth so you don't get bored with the surroundings. And somehow every stupid sidequest feels like you are progressing. Sure you don't need it, but those extra 3 inventory slots, it feels worthwhile every time.
