Devs: We didn't implement a souls-like combat system in this...
Also devs:
- put in console shite lock targeting unlike the original game
- rolling around like a prick unlike the original game
- no back-pedaling, just spinning like a moron, unlike the original game
- ???
[removed due to being too big / against rules]

1 and 2 had auto-targeting and a soft lock though.
And it's not like Gothic had amazing combat. It was mostly stat based, with some skill if you managed to perfectly execute swings. In the remake it's still stat based, since it doesn't seem they changed the damage formula and there's no level scaling. They just added some mobility options other than runnig around in circles
I play Gothic 2 from time to time. Still holds up quite well but controls feels a little stiff or digital in comparison to modern games.
The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos (mod) has a pretty recent 9000+ players peak which speaks for how playable and popular it still is, even though the mechanics are old.
I replay both from time to time. Gothic 1 doesn't feel "a lot worse" to me. Pretty similar to Gothic 2.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
It was definitely more fun than mindless button mashing, and I can't say I don't like it, but it was very simple. Slash, step back (autoblock), slash, step back. With the first advanced level of weapon skills you could stunlock enemies easily, and regardless of level it was a pain when fighting groups.

And now people bitchin about Oblivion Remastered combat, if you remaster the game maybe modernize/improve the combat mechanics somewhat.
i wonder how the patch support will be, hard to say with THQ Nordic. I think we can probably forget Crimson Desert type of support, but who knows...
Quite dependent on the sales i guess.
The Gothic fans, on Reddit at least, are so angry about everything with this game, i hope its a minority on the whole.
Someone made a meme where there's an image of original Gothic 1 saying its how it would look and play if those people could decide, and this is 100% correct. They really just want the original game including the graphics, so there is nothing this dev team can do to make them happy i think.
"oh i remember this wall texture from the original game, it had such wonderful flavor to its blur, this new sharp texture with all its details just feels wrong, not the Gothic vibe i want!" etc. I deal with those people as well, doing texture remakes of old games
Nope.
Because I'm playing chronycly dy myrtyny - archolyyyy KURWAAAAAAAAA!! at the moment.
And will probably pick up and finish last years playthrough of the original Gothic soon, too.

That's not what "eurojunk" is; it's the lack of polish that has been traditionally prevalent in European games, mostly from central and eastern Europe.

THQ sent out review copies very late. As a result, you should not expect reviews on launch day that cover the full scope of the game. Major gaming outlets have already pointed out that there will be no pre-release reviews, and we will also only share our impressions on launch day based on the amount of time we have been able to spend with the game by then. Do not expect comprehensive reviews before the second week of June.
May the NFOrce be with you always.
