Union has tons of QOL stuff too, again, highly recommended, fixes old bugs with the engine or animations etc.

Wonder if there's an AI yet that can translate audio dialogue directly, using the original voices.. might look for that, probably for personal use only since it can be a bit controversial i guess.

You can always do the much shorter secret route and save your brother, plus not get shafted in the end.

Another Gothic 2 total conversion mod, releasing on December 12th.
https://www.gog.com/en/game/golden_gate_2_goddess_heart

Quote:
Is playing Golden Gate 1 beforehand mandatory?
No, in Golden Gate 2 you're going to experience a new story of a hunter named Morris. Still, you can count on some references to Golden Gate 1.

Are any characters from the original Gothic series going to appear?
Yeah, some of them. Among others, it will be Gorn and Milten. Samoa, however, is located far east of Myrtana or Khorinis, so there won't be too many of such characters, and their appearance will be justified.

Why are we playing as a new hero and not the Nameless?
We've decided to use a new character as a protagonist because it allowed us to tell a more interesting and nuanced story. Morris is a complex character who has already established connections and relations with locals. Thanks to that, we could construct our plot with a unique approach.

Will we be able to play as a mage? (Cryomancer)
Well, yes and no. Although you won't have the possibility of joining any magic guild or even learning magic circles, you'll be able to use magic scrolls and so-called Hasisian runes — to simplify what they actually are, you can think of them as a hybrid of scrolls and runes from Gothic 2.

Are the romances obligatory?
No, they're purely optional.

Will there be a possibility to romance a man?
No, there won't be such an option. Morris, as the witcher Geralt for instance, is heterosexual and interested only in women.

I'm 35 hours in and speechless, this mod took the #1 spot from Enderal and blows away many, MANY AA and AAA RPG attempts out there. If anyone has forgotten about it or still undecided, if you liked both games you MUST try this.
It's also perfect for this hot summer since it doesn't tax your system that much Very Happy

What took you so long. Very Happy

Likewise, the mod's been steadily sitting on my backlog for years as I'm still in uber patient mode waiting for that cryptic "when it's done" 2.0 release. Hopefully it's not too far off now...*summons the skeleton bear*

Gonna do another CoM run after G1 Remake. The "MoTY" version seems gimmicky anyways.

... one of the reasons I started playing was due to believing that after all these years it was finished and now ya'll kurwas are telling me that this isn't the final version? Crying or Very sad
Well, aside from the annoying disappearing pickaxe bug and some technical issues that were ironed out it's been pretty stable and bugfree.

You're good to finish this version. It's still absolutely amazing.

Mod of the year/decade probably won't add a huge amount of new story content etc. Seems like it will mostly be gameplay focused and some new side content.

If it ever gets released, they worked on Gothic 1 remaster, we can hope they are instead working with the team on G2 Remaster.

And then ignore G3 and do Archolos instead.

I still think G3 has the most potential IF the combat system gets fixed, which is by far the most glaring issue with it. There's other gameplay improvements needed, but the atmosphere, map and music are fantastic.

I agree, its the the best when it comes to the map and exploration, but the quests, the fighting, nah... the story and atmosphere is great too. so cool to have the desert area, though its lacking in many ways too, that area has especially huge potential.

I might be misremembering, but I don't think G3 had good exploration. The biggest issue I had was the chests with a loot table based on the number of chests opened. And there was little to no enviromental storytelling. Gothic 2 had that in droves. You went somewhere and you could bet your ass you would find a forgotten shrine, a scene of carnage, a weird npc, and it all still made sense. Meanwhile in G3 all you got outside cities was generic art.

G3's map was almost 3x bigger than G2, wasn't it? And had very different zones like forest, desert, mountain, swamp. But yes, I remember it felt very barren with few enemy encounters and boring places. Especially the last area, the desert, I think there was barely anything in it.

Yeah, i agree. Lot of copy pasting like typical massive open worlds. The geography etc was cool and well laid out but the actual micro encounters, not much of interest.

I went back and played G3 a few summers ago just to see how it ended and it was still a pile of crap after all these years.
