What, where? Never seen. Shininess is not something it exaggerate from my experience. But maybe it could happen, i mean its a mod, it's people trying it out with all kinds of various settings in the tool, its not like RDR2 was meant to use DLSS 5.

No it doesn't. Have you really played around with ALL setting in the tool? Are you sure the person who applied the mod dialed colors in? I have seen very bad examples, settings i would never personally use. A lot of videos is just someone who just got it working and without tweaking it. My images of KOTOR is just my first examples, messing around with it. You really have to sit down and dial every setting in.

Devs can get hdr look, and garish textures of the characters at the process of creating the game. They can do that at zero performance cost, thankfully they chose not to do it, or we would already have those abominations today in games.

No. It's not possible to do something which looks like neural rendering does in real time.

I have created remasters of games using this technique, Morrowind, Gohtic 2, Thief 2, Jedi Knight 2 and both KOTOR games. I spent many months for each game recreating every texture using neural rendering (or img-img which we call it), prompting every texture. All these mods are on Nexusmods. Still, it really looks nothing like this at all, because static images cant calculate shadows or metallic materials etc in real time.

The HDR look is mostly people using (too) many passes. Does NBA looks like exaggerated HDR images? No it doesn't and its the only real example since its not a mod , it has the settings dialed in by the devs, how DLSS 5 is applied in the 3D pipeline might be completely different too.

I think it's mostly the vids people are posting on youtube, people are over cranking the passes burning the image out with some weird emboss look, and posting it online. Some of then HAVE to be set to 8+ passes, 4+ looks bad to me in my games.
And I think people are forgetting this is a pre-released, leaked/duct taped in early version of it.

Like I said before, I use to shit ALL OVER volumetric shadows and lighting on its first release on cards that could do it on-hardware. All jagged, and fuzzy at the same time, weird overblown lighting, and everything made 'shiny' so the lighting had a point. Then it matured, and actually started to look OK.

This one is good to me, even with the leaked unfinished/tweaked DLL for a first gen pass of the tech.
Other than the road textures going all swirly, the rest looks MILES better that default American Truck Sim.

Personal tastes and all, some might hate it. But it makes me wants to reinstall it and grab my wheel to try it out:

8 passes looks terrible, its not useable Razz i have tried. the image gets very white, halo's around characters. I really like 2 passes myself.
I use it now in Black Flag Resynced. A friend who doesn't know anything about graphics came over when i played it, he never comments on graphics because he's not really a gamer or someone who would care about it.
He stared at the screen for a while and said "doesn't this look, like, really good???"
I think its the fist time i have heard him comment on graphics and acting actually impressed Very Happy

above looks fantastic btw. actual photorealism. anyone thinking its just about doing better textures + maybe tweaking the light and colors is delusional. it cant be done and hasnt been done, not to this extent.

I am never hearing the arguments though, people are quick to say "they don't like" something, but when it comes to the arguments its vague or something too broad and generic that could be applied to anything in games.

What about realism do you not understand? DLSS is highly unrealistic right now. It's garish, and fake. Just look at Read Dead 2 video. Character is shining like he's drenched in water. Also, it erases blue haze from the distant landscape, ruining all the scale from it, for some reason. It's plain to see, there's no need for detailed explanation. Some people like it, I've no problems with that. I've problems with them calling this thing photorealistic, when it's clearly not. It's photoshop-realistic at best. Characters are like those heavily retouched magazine glamour shots, that were all the rage in the 2000's. And landscapes are HDR landscapes of that time as well. Some people liked those at the time, as well. High pass skin editing and dodge and burn shading for portraits, and clarity slider to the max for landscape.
And then there's performance hit on top of it. And it's completely unneeded, simply because all of that can be achieved with artistic direction. Devs can get hdr look, and garish textures of the characters at the process of creating the game. They can do that at zero performance cost, thankfully they chose not to do it, or we would already have those abominations today in games.

You're wrong and that's okay

Depends on the game, it 's a broad hammer right now not a scalpel.

If the devs making the game implement DLSS5 for each game individually I'm sure it looks much better with it.

Even a normal user can adjust it to look properly and be an undeniable upgrade (apart from performance)

The only options we are missing that devs have is to mask specific objects and have them run with different parameters, same with different scenes/levels running at different parameters and models.

Which would still help a lot, some scenes look better with a different model and parameters

Still, you're seeing a powerful tool in the hands of people who will overdo it and not care about accuracy (for example not knowing the color intensity slider exists which at 0 will retain 100% of th original colors and only apply shading), but letting that form ones opinion over the viability of the technology says more about the person than the technology.

Yes, for the sake of optimizing so the whole thing is less taxing on the Gpu.

If they tweak it the same way the do for the Unreal Engine then theyll just enable it on default settings and call it a day.

unfortunately that has no impact at all for performance. it's an on/off function and On is always the same performance, doesn't matter if you only apply the effect to e.g faces and clothing.

I was curious about this myself, researched it a bit.

No Razz The INSANE meme is now actually funny because it drives some people INSANE in the comments section. It has gone full circle, from being super annoying to now being very funny because they lean into it.

I follow a dude who always starts his videos with "This week for AI has been absolutely INSANE!", i love it. People not in on the joke goes

It may look INSANE in 2035. But right now the lightning is all over the place and the GPU+CPU trying to keep up with the player's speed loading assets, renders and textures constantly which just makes you want to smash your innocent monitor... Crying or Very sad

The fuck is happening here

Most of these videos look like absolute shit because the people just dial up things to the max because they want the most "effect"

And then use it with games it doesn't work properly (or they implement it improperly)

I mean why is it so flickery, and why upload that and pretend its awesome. Awful.
