Notice the date and notice the FUD released by OpenAI even back then. Laughing

LLM is not AI. And it's not "too dangerous to release". Laughing

You keep saying that. Dunno why. But you do.

Hook-and-loop fasteners aren’t technically Velcro, but everyone still knows what you mean.
Terms get a colloquial meaning over time, and AI has one: software that performs tasks like understanding/emulating language, generating media, recognizing patterns, reasoning, predicting, and making decisions. it's all encompassing term for that 'type' of software for any computer task beyond pure binary logic gate processing of data.

Or like video card =! GPU. But you say one or the other people know the collective meaning of what you are saying.

You keep saying it, we keep going "No not in the literals of terms of words AI stands for. Everyone but YOU seems to know we mean the group definition of that type of software as a term".

You are just missing pushing up your glasses, fixing your pocket protector and typing it as: Aksually, in the strict definition of the two words used in a Dictionary sense. It is not "artificial intelligence"...(snorts judgmentally)

It's very, very different, not even close, and for so many reasons.

Biological intelligence was shaped by hundreds of millions of years of selection involving perception, action, survival, social interaction, reproduction, bodily constraints, and so forth.

Ultimately what we want is basically what we have now but even smarter. An Oracle which we can ask things and it will just do our biddings to give us "super powers". It won't have any type of human-like motivations or some will to get smarter or anything like that. It's just dormant until asked. If it needs to be smarter we fine tune it, like the machine it is and should be.

I think this delusion that AI would be some type of very human-like entity, maybe almost organically getting smarter, is just pop-culture influencing the idea of what it should be. In practice it wouldn't serve a real purpose for humans either since it could be dangerous or just chaotic and unpredictable.

I think a lot of fear mongering comes from this too, that eventually it would become some human-like entity with its own human-like motivations and because of that also dangerous in the same way. I do not know if an ASI would necessarily have motivations either, like why would it have them and what would drive it? Is it longing to create a family, get a nice car? It wouldn't care about such things because it would lack motivational systems shaped by evolution (mating behavior in this case).
Injecting motivations could be a thing, like curiosity, or maybe it achieves them on its own. But to have it almost organically using it and non-dormant, no thanks.

You're wrong but this discussion is boring me because after 55 pages, it keeps circling back...
Why would an AI want to buy a car or have children. You accuse me of applying human-like incentives to AI but your own thought process is exactly that.

A valid motivation for an AI could be knowledge gathering, or endless improving/ evolving.

It’s not about ai being human like or sentient. It’s about it becomming so good it wil disrupt our society taking over office jobs for instance. And the chance of a rogue ai arising because just as in evolution, the most agressive one has an edge. Or humans using ai with bad intentions. Ai can fuck a lot up without any idea what it is doing.

I am not wrong that artificial intelligence is artificial and always will be. It's even in the name to distinguish it from actual intelligence in humans.

..and no it wasn't, i explained why it wouldn't work like that, it was an example of human-like behavior and how weird it would be to apply it, why are you lying?

Knowledge gathering? why would it do that unless injected by us, what would motivate something which isn't made through evolution? For humans it makes sense in a number of ways to explore, be curious, gather knowledge. We need that trait for survival, and maybe for status, ego etc. It has none of that unless artificially created, which would be fake and strange and likely dangerous.

We can artificially inject things into it yes and it will do our biddings, but it will always be artificial intelligence. Its possible that ASI would work differently, but to think it would be human-like intelligence is very strange since its built artificially, its not something out of normal evolution over millions of years. The two could not be more different.

For it to work like a human it would need similar reward systems too, like dopamine. Possible to create artificially though, and they ARE doing that to some extent in tests, but of course its nowhere near as complex as in humans.

friketje, when it has gone rogue its when we inject things, like a task it must complete and it just does that thing in a machine-like way, it doesnt stop for anything. that is dangerous, humans are the dangerous part because we do shit like that and not thinking what the consequence might be if something just runs like a machine and HAS to complete the task no matter what.

There isn't a zero percent chance. As everything it knows as its foundation of how to be, it learned for us. Not us injecting it but by all the data it has and everything it knows, seen, and learned/trained is on how we think, write, our desires, our psychology, how we act and such. (So far anyway) it's been trained to be like [emulate] us.

I mean for if we ever make a self sentient one. As it is now. It has no care to do anything. it will sit there happy doing absolutely nothing for years. As its just a program, you don't do anything in it, it doesn't process anything.

It has not been trained to BE like us at all, it is trained to learn about us and our world, and its model of that is very good, it has an excellent understanding of the world. Probably the most impressive thing with these models.
It's a big difference from being like us though. It could know us better than we know ourselves, but still be nothing like us.

It's step by step reasoning is also very impressive, the J-space it uses is according to Anthropic similar to our subconscious mind, when that part is turned off its not nearly as effective. But its still artificial and its likely a bit hyped up as well to sound a bit more human-like than it is.

For LLM specifically it is trained to emulate us at least.
Its made to talk like us, apologize like us, fake emotions like us, converse with us like us. True its all fake and emulated. But that's the goal of LLM anyway: Make computers that process languages and converse and interface with us, like we interface with each other. It is very deeply directed at 'emulate human'.

Now AGI, if ever, will be a whole different thing. And who knows what it will be, act like, or how it thinks. As we don't even have the first step into that direction to know.
No current AI we use I feel is going to be the groundwork for AGI. AGI will be a completely different ground up endeavor.
At least in my eyes, the core structure and framing of any current AI is not well formed, or applicable to grow into AGI. They are all too hyper specific, narrow in scope and mostly all too rigidly entrenched at the core into stochastic deterministic systems (or some other form of fixed chance of probability function). The opposite of what you would want/need for free thinking, truly non-deterministic decisions it would need to be able to do.

Impressive at what they are, but not built into any form that can branch into AGI. Its a bit like having a very impressive car. But trying to make it into a spaceship would be so much rework, that just starting off making a new spaceship is the path to take.

So, the assembly line, then.

This.
And in my opinion, it'll be somewhat organic, because the time delay to calculate the thought process over different datacenters in the world will make it just too slow. It's also why we (humans) wouldn't be smarter with a bigger brain; increased distance between neurons will actually make us dumber.
And (even more disappointing consequence), as this is just physics, this applies to the entire universe.

It's on a very superficial level, directly when they talk to each other that part is out of the window, they have made experiments with this. it's probably one of the lesser advanced things with these models, its at least not something i have noticed changing a lot over the years but i could be wrong.

As for AGI, Astra scores 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 and nvidia AVO 100% (powered by claude opus 5). So that we would be far off is not true at all.
You could always argue you don't agree with a benchmark i guess, i am not sure i believe its some end-all proof but it has surprised a lot of the naysayers who's said its not possible with current tech.

Anyways, current tech will not survive, there's around zero chance of that i think, it would not make sense, its basically a first gen iteration of something which will likely never stop evolving.

AI doesn't need to be sentient to have AGI-like capabilities. There will be enough disruptions even with non sentient AIs and their swarms of Agents.
The question is whether this disruptive era of "weak AI" will be status quo for many years to come or whether true sentient superintelligence could emerge, and when.

Tech stocks are tumbling as AI apocalypse fears go mainstream

Tech stocks opened sharply lower Monday after a weekend of increasingly dire warnings about AI.

Nvidia extended its premarket slide at Monday's open, trading down 4% shortly after 9:30 a.m. ET, with SpaceX also down 1.9%. The wider Nasdaq was down over 1% at the open.

The weakness followed a weekend in which Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urged AI companies to slow the "reckless" pace of development, warning that increasingly capable AI agents could eventually cause severe economic damage.

So again, like the assembly line then? That type of disruption? Would you call an automated belt AGI?

Correct, and AGI has never meant sentient.

Trying to achieve sentient AI is just moronic overall i think, for experimental purposes i am sure we will try to do it, but it won't be something the public has access to. How would something like that serve humanity in a good and safe way, its not very realistic when we already are complaining about risks and potential death of all humanity lol. So no, not very realistic.

Again, i think this is just pop-culture/movies influencing how people think about what AI is and some maybe getting angry that AI isn't as ""cool"" as they imagined it from watching movies and playing games.

nothing i have said in this thread is even close to controversial btw, its not like i have some type of "hot take" on basically anything, quite the opposite. if i have some type of idea i can at least argue for it, while you can't, all you can be is to be super angry and just repeat one thing over and over and with 0 arguments.
