I have created remasters of games using this technique, Morrowind, Gohtic 2, Thief 2, Jedi Knight 2 and both KOTOR games. I spent many months for each game recreating every texture using neural rendering (or img-img which we call it), prompting every texture. All these mods are on Nexusmods. Still, it really looks nothing like this at all, because static images cant calculate shadows or metallic materials etc in real time.
The HDR look is mostly people using (too) many passes. Does NBA looks like exaggerated HDR images? No it doesn't and its the only real example since its not a mod , it has the settings dialed in by the devs, how DLSS 5 is applied in the 3D pipeline might be completely different too.
I looked at them, and you have bad taste. I much prefer vanilla textures in all those games. They show creative vision, and fit the games. That's all I'm going to say, but it does explain your fascination with dlss.

my skyrim mods has 20m downloads so there's at least a few who likes my mods.

Yeah that's what I wrote earlier. It can create nice looking scenes, but only in stills. The current model is not capable of consistency between frames which is a huge flaw for actually using it IMO. But then people are stretching this beyond what it's currently supposed to do and it's early tech.

Will it look good down the road, I have no idea. But I have no expectations for the leaked early version to be a magic bullet for every game I ever played, and shit on it when its not.
I suspect (pure assumption) that most the hate is heavy based on its 'AI'. If it was just new on-die tech that somehow did this same thing using 'old school GPU horsepower' like T&L, Cube mapping, vertex shaders, MSAA, etc was back in the day. They might still dislike it but not nearly as much stigma hate.

People are not allowed to dislike something nowadays, its always "hate". This is just as dumb as calling people who like something "fanboys".
Everyone and their mother nowadays uses AI to generate text and pictures and many times its just bad because they deem it "good enough" to publish because its still easier/cheaper than ask a professional or come up with some text yourself. And honestly at the point we are now, its actually a degradation of our collective experience, because it is just "good enough". But it all looks the same, has the same quality to it.
I guess at some point it will and must become better but the amount of literal slop I am forced to see in my everyday experience just has my eyeballs rolling backwards all the time to the point of creating inveterate disgust when I notice it.

I didn't mean I was applying dislike framed as hate.
I meant more that some people (not just here, overall even on discord) berating people that like a thing, and making sure everyone knows that they dislike it so much they come across as if it killed their dog.

1+1 = 2 is objective and objectively not 3. If someone thinks a thing is visually pleasing is subjective. to you it's pretty = 2, to them its pretty = 3. And both answers are right.
Lots of games I think look like ass on their own (like that weird shooter that emulates ps1 texture stuff). I dont comment "How can you look at this asssmear on the screen? That game is ugly and you are dumb for liking it".
As I said before, if for example someone wanted to install Reshade, and play all games in ascii filter. More power to them I say. Or they want to play modern AAA games at 320x240 because they like the way it looks like a 1992 game..go for it, your eyes and your choice.

its a mod though (or actually several, there are many ways to apply DLSS5), with a lot of settings too, and this isn't applied by the devs of these games and none of these games apart from NBA 2k27 was made with it in mind.
It has to be taken into account for anything DLSS 5 in the thread, that its just a mod applied and often with very specific user settings - some might be good some might be bad. As a showcase for DLSS 5 it might not be that great, i'd see it more as a showcase of a mod which can be applied to any game and very quickly to make it look substantially different.
I also feel like it's the rolling perception of what 'real life' seems like in games, vs the reality of it.

I've used it before. But it always fits. This was when Unreal came out and people saying the intro "looks just like a movie!".
And it did to some people, back then. Because it was better than what we was use to in games.

So yea, to some people DLSS5 feels like a movie to them. Even if in 10-15 years they look back and go "WTF was I thinking"...like people do with the first Unreal. And then think whatever current gen is "looks like a real movie!". Rinse repeat.

And then there's performance aspect as well... Pro sim racers don't do VR, multiple monitors, and they certainly don't look at the graphics. FPS matters, a lot. It'll effect force feedback, and even physics in some cases. I'm not pro myself, but even I can see tangible lap time improvements when everything is smooth. An no dlss framgen is not smooth, it's the reverse of it, you're better off doing clear 60fps with no dlss, than 120fps with dlss. Input lag is horrible.
In video graphics, we're constantly doing full reversals. From going to high refresh monitor, to smooth framerates, then going back again whoring for graphics, for raytracing, for dlss "shiney modes", that brings us back below 60fps. I understand that some people like pretty graphics, but some people like smooth performance more than graphics. If performance camp is not allowed to voice its options, then the other camp wins, and we'll end at 30fps with everything looking like it went through beginners course of photoshop first.
whoring for FPS is for a few people who compete, so maybe like 1% or whatever.
and of course, anything for graphics upgrades are just temporary, goes without saying. there's zero chance we won't go back and looking at current gen graphics as complete shit in 5-10 years, maybe faster.
Playing skyrim ultra modded now and i cant get over how bad the LODs are and how flat the lighting is in the not so-far distance. if it had looked this good at release though, wow, would have been jaw-dropping.

I can also say a full size cabinet saw is no use to a professional framer. it's too hard to move around, cumbersome, heavy. And speed as well as portability is the goal. So cabinet Saws are useless and have no target audience overall.

Performance isn't a niche topic. We already have games that are struggling to run on 5090. Framegen isn't a solution, even though nvidia was touting it as such. Now they added dlss facelift, and performance only deteriorated. It's obvious they'll try pushing it, since it's another advantage over ati, but at what cost?

Framegens been around for years, and for all those years if you personally didn't want it on, you don't turn it on.
I seriously seriously doubt it's going to be mandatory. I can't think of a single 'high+ settings' graphic option since the days of when AMD cards was ATI still and nvidia was riva tnt, that was forced as an option on the driver/GPU level. It was always optional in games (unless a dev sucked and forced it. But thats a shitty dev problem, not the techs problem).
So I honestly still don't see what your point is other than they are making options, that are optional, that you wouldn't use and upset some people would 'settle' for game results you don't desire.
Like I don't get the desire for riced out JDM cars. Sound like a weedeater with no muffler, and have a whale tin fin as big as the car. But I don't go around saying "I don't see the point, high torque is not a niche market. Not everyone wants tinny sounding high rev engines they are annoying. I don't see why they even sell these options"

Other people having fun or liking something is the bane of some people's existence. It's been very evident for a while now.
There's now been quite the breakthrough reverse engineering this from dev called UzbekUnknown, i hope eventually we get custom/fine-tuned neural-rendering models... seeing how fast this develops im pretty confident it will happen. It would be wild for experimenting with graphics in almost any way imaginable.
I talked to chatgpt about it too, it responded "I'd put it roughly at 70–80% that we eventually see experimental custom/fine-tuned neural-rendering models derived from this ecosystem".
But yes, thats only for DLSS 5 and there's not a chance this will stop at that.
