It's such a dull game.

The world is an asset flip of itself from start to finish. Everything repeats over and over, there are 7-8 laundromats in one area. The enemies are copy paste and all you have to do is spam click.

The story justification for copy pasta doesn't work for me.

The first game was overrated, this one is even worse. At least Control had the novelty on its side and the atmosphere was better.

Control was a shooter if I remember correctly.
I’ve only had a melee weapon in Control Resonant so I assume I’m not getting a gun? :/

Well, it's bogged down in every regard to it's gotta appeal to the masses now? Sales seem to be good from what I saw.
Not that I like them dumbing down their games, but Remedy have been so close to going down in the past, they really need a big hit at some point.

Yeah, the game is still a very mixed bag. It's not terrible but the issues are fairly glaring.

Combat... is it repetative? Sure to a degree, but it can be fun. However, combining the repetitive combat with respawning all enemies after a resonant is just idiotic.

Puzzles aren't all that inspired.

Writing is horrific. Main character doesn't make much sense with the life he's had, the dialogue for pretty much everyone is some of the worst written dialogue I've seen in a game recently. Pacing is off, you'll get a 2-3min audio log before a boss fight, were you just have to stop and wait for it to finish or ignore it. Same issue with all the written logs. They're cluttered all over the place and are either going to be ignored or stop the only thing that holds the game, the flow of travel and combat. And just stupid political messaging and shit like that, like your supervisor woman that works for a goverment agency that basically forces kids in to training and torture, and makes people dissapear, does all sorts of shady shit, decides to make a point about the government not taking care of the homeless, in the middle of a disaster where like most people in the whole of new york are dead and everything is horrible, like... WHAT ARE WE WRITING HERE? And there's quite a bit of this type of shit.

With a lot of the sidequest I think they looked at trying to make some absurdist nonsense, but what they actually made is just nonsense.

This is like some paranormal entity killed your friend (Control) and it's now walking around wearing its skin, pretending to still be control, it has its memories, it talks sort of like it, but acts nothing like it and you just kind of have to just ignore all that.

Oh and the voice acting doesn't help the bad dialogue either. It's very bad. Not in a horrific way, but more in a "they saw a script" and just phoned it in way.

Broken shit like, you're mid-dialogue with someone and a quest pops up for something unrelated for some reason and it just breaks you out of the dialogue, and it's just gone, you can't go back or make a choice. Audio logs getting cut off or broken cause of walking a bit too far and the radio dialogue with your supervisor popped up. A few audio issues here and there with glitchy audio, but that's fairly mild and not an issue I care about much.

Sure, copy paste rooms... I'm sure they used the modern franchise of everything looks the same as an excuse and the pattern entity as well, but it is noticeable to say the least.

There's also just the typical of big studios political undertones and HR decision, that are fairly obvious, but I don't want to have a back and fourth argument on that here so whatever I'll just leave it at that.

I think the idea of the game sustains it more so than the actual game itself. That and the combat like I said, can be fun, if a bit mindless....

it's kind of a 6 for me at best, and that's just not counting the writing and political stuff against it, mostly just tuned that out.

I might finish it, but I don't know. It's getting harder to justify.

One thing that is really bothering me is the board sound effect when finishing off faltered enemies. And the combat system sort of encourages you to hear it very often to get the buff. It’s so grating and obnoxious.

I've been at the ending sequence, which does something different (no spoilers), for two days now. I don't find the strength to push through. Laughing

Maybe the press try to give Remedy a hand with the studio being in a financial tough spot. But those scores are crazy and the reviews on steam are no better.

I'm still in the beginning and I'm not feeling it either. performance isn't great and it's quite a blurry mess when the action starts there's so many particles and effects I don't even know wtf is going on anymore. can't see shit captain. On top of the that the design and layout seem incoherent. Remedy should definitely stick to small scale linear game design.

This is an open busy work simulator

You're still a pathetic "yes, mom" type of guy to a bunch of bossladys. It's a easy skip. The gameplay and environment certainly doesn't save this one, that is for damn sure

This game really is kinda ugly and at the same time horribly optimized

Frame pacing is all over the place and those micro stutters really bring out the worst in terms of VRR flicker on OLED

The only way to enjoy it is to play with a controller, smooths out the stuttering.

But then again visuals completely ruin the mechanics of the game as well, as it is impossible to notice the smaller enemies' hits. Stupid smudge and blur. So you just have to learn the rythm of their attack, and dodge proactively.

But to be honest, after many hours, the combat is uber repetitive. Same mobs, very few moves. Basically you have an optimal chain of attack, and then dodge around using it on every heavy enemy and done.

This is NOT an RPG. There are no builds. This is an action game with a couple of very similar paths you can take, and that is it.

Also, coming from Blood of the Dawnwalker, which has a patience based combat system, where mashing will get you killed fast, this is the opposite of that: not mashing will get you killed, I have to say I enjoy the slower approach a lot more.

Here is another thing that is super stupid - if you want high weapon power, then you have to unlock and upgrade weapon forms you don't actually use. I have everything unlocked, so I have massive weapon power. I have my optimal chain. At this point I don't even dodge, because I just facetank shit and kill fast enough to regain health shards and just move on.

It is stupid at this point.

The hype is completely unfounded.

Did they even get even on Alan Wake 2?
This clearly is a budgety title that is bothered with all the "open world" issues. I'm 40 hours in and it's become a chore, the combat is meh and become ultra easy after beating the park resonant. The Escher levels are a bother which is the only gimmick in this.

No really interesting set pieces here, just liminal spaces and fucked up architecture.

Well I'm with all the mediocre reviews but press is corrupt and won't call out that the king is naked.

there's definitely nothing sam lakey about this one from what I've played, seems like a smaller side project to fill the gap until control 2 and the max payne remakes. It lacks heart.

Super fun so far, vibe is still there, its just Control in an open world

but at least that affords it to do random shit like little stores and apartments you walk into for weird ass puzzles (so the same as the labs in control really) and loot goblin vending machines

not to mention the Dr. Strange ass city sections, gorgeous too (at times)

Bit grindy tho

Dylan is as much of a character as Jesse, so not much of one

And where the fuck is Ahti..

How do you reckon that? They're nothing alike whatsoever. This is a shitty repetitive hack'n'slash, Control was about exploration and had a lot of cool and mind blowing lore and new ideas. They're two completely different genres. Just because resonant has some walking sections it doesn't mean it's the same kind of game that Control is.

Meh.
