A modification to the new PC version of the Spider-Man Remastered video game removing its LGBTQ+ Pride flags has been banned by two gaming sites
Players are able to modify some video games by adding new features such as weapons and locations.
The person who replaced Pride flags with the USA flag in Spider-Man was banned on Nexus Mods and ModDB.
Nexus Mods director Robin Scott told users who disagreed with this decision to "delete your account".
The presence of LGBTQ+ Pride flags in Spider-Man Remastered was supported by fans who were in favour of more in-game LGBTQ+ representation when it was first released in 2018.
The game was released for PC last week.
Nexus Mods said the modification was "very clearly done deliberately to be a troll mod".
What are "mods"?
Game modification sites like Nexus and Mod DB allow users to upload their own tweaks or edits to a game which can be downloaded and implemented for other users, to enhance their playing experience.
Modifications, or mods, can range from changing colours and surroundings in games to adding new characters and storylines within existing worlds.
The modifications can even result in the creation of entirely new games.
The first game in the popular Counter-Strike franchise was initially developed as a mod for the 1998 first-person shooter blockbuster Half-Life.
'Silly drama'
Mr Scott said in a blog post on Wednesday that the upload of the Spider-Man Remastered mod had sparked "some silly drama" on Nexus's site.
"The mod replaced the very few Pride flags the game actually has, with the already prevalent USA flag texture from the game," he added.
He said the upload was removed and its creator was banned from Nexus Mods for violating the company's policies.
These say content which could be considered provocative, discriminatory or abusive towards "any real-world individual or group" may be moderated.
"In regards to the replacement of Pride flags in this game, or any game, our policy is thus: we are for inclusivity, we are for diversity," Mr Scott added.
ModDB, another popular modding site, also deleted similar uploads to its site this week.
These included an "Anti-Gay Mod" replacing LGBTQ+ flags in the Spider-Man game with a flag promoting former US president Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.
After a Twitter user flagged a mod on the website which, according to its description, "changes the stupid Pride flags to American flags", ModDB said it removed the content and banned users.
"ModDB is an inclusive environment for all and we do not permit targeting marginalised groups," it wrote, adding the site had a "zero tolerance policy" for such content.

bs. jason schreier is a bioware shill.
star wars ip and mass effect ip existed befdore in tandem and now suddenly its an issue?
the issue is clear 3 game failures and you are out no matter what the reason was.
Pretty sure that's not the real issue. EA was bought by Saudia Arabia. Obviously they dind't like the faggot fest that is BioWERE and their dogshit trans obsessions.

He speaks of a multitude of factors. With the latest being that EA had to choose where to spend their money. If you followed recently, EA's new owners are asking for billions in revenue. So, EA is most likely putting all their eggs in the baskets they are sure will succeed.
The video is pretty interesting, but one can't validated everything Jason says.
Can you imagine a BioWere game not succeeding—or even considered a risk—in the 2008 to 2010 era?
Hmm, I wonder what changed?
Right, "mAnAgEmEnT" and "EA"
Bioware was always "woke". There were gay romances in all the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games and most of those were highly praised. So, if your point is that they went under because they got woke, the data doesn't support your argument.
Bioware started to suck as the years went by. Like I said before, they were never fvery good at creating compelling gameplay. Besides Baldur's Gate 2 and maybe KOTOR, I don't think there are other Bioware games that actually excel at gameplay. The studio excelled at writing and world building, but their last three games failed at that.
Saying that the management isn't to be blamed at all is bullshit. Dragon Age: Inquisition, which was a success, suffered greatly because it was initially designed as an mmo/gaas. Just compare DA: Inquisiton to TW3, which came less than a year later, and the differences are insane.
Veilguard was meant to be a gaas and you can spot that from miles. The gameplay and UI look like designed for a fucking mobile environment.

ppl conveniently forget that ppl/gamers/"chuds" werent anti gay/bi whatever romance options. Back then it wasn't a big deal because they didn't try to shove it down your throat in every 9999 netflix movies, with esg scores in games and didnt do poor writing just to lecture you. Comparing that to nowadays is totally dishonest and i doubt anyone using this as an argument is truly believing their own bs.
Are you sure people weren't against this? I remember Troika removing a gay character from the docks area of ToEE after outcry.
So much division on the most idiotic stuff. In the meantime corporations go from "woke" to "anti-woke" in the blink of an eye. Not to mentioned the very principled anti identity politics gamers who buy anything anyway.

Ppl obv. didnt complain enough about it and werent radicalized back then.
Wasnt your argument that "the numbers dont support it" ?
For me personally game studios go broke because they went fully woke.
Dei hiring does that. Instead of hiring someone whos peak at their job companies hire activists who have other traits like being queer or some other stuff. Forcing in some dei bullshit is a huge side effect.
Ofc there are older studios like larian that didnt have a huge turn over in staff that decided to go the wokeish route but still deliver good games. So yeah still a spectrum for me tbh. Veilguard dustborn etc arent in the same leauge as bg3 or pathfinder games so the positives outweigh the negatives.
P.s.: Oh wdym companies dont have an ideology and doing everything for money. who would have thought?
Every studio closing down and some dumbasses will still have no clue why
I can see you have no clue.
Studios are closing left and right, "woke" or not. The industry has gotten to big for its britches, over hiring to bloat the numbers and expecting over increasing profits.
The big companies are betting on the big franchises now. Look at Microsoft or THQ that closed a bunch of studios that weren't necessarily on a loss. They kept what's expected to turn a big profit with the lowest risk.
It's funny how the "anti-woke" crowd always gives the shittiest games as example for failure because of "woke". But games and movies/tv shows fail because they are bad, not because they are "woke" and these two are not mutually exclusive or inclusive for that matter.
Arcane is "woke" and it was a hit as a tv show.
Horizon, DA:I, BG3, Hades, Overwatch, Apex Legends, Spiderman 2, Cyberpunk, TLoU, ME, Disco Elysium, GoW, Jedi Fallen Order, Dispatch etc are all games that some people would call "woke" and were very successful. And these are just a few. I don't even like some of these games, but they do deliver on artistic direction, production value, etc. and that's why they sell.
Veilguard is the poster boy of the argument against "woke". A game that looks and plays like ass.
But see. You have a very binary way of thinking and that's why you aren't getting it. Very black and white. There are nuances. Does the story feel mature or written by HR? does the character look good or shit? concord, marathon and this new incoming horizon coop monster hunter games are examples of where character design "wokeness" kills a competitive game before launch, how does the development crew behave and do they use bluesky? Lots of shite.
Then you have Baldurs gate 3 right. Ohh yes, it has woke elements. But those are minor, sometimes annoyingly in your face, but you can eject the character from your life if you like. But again, it is a game that is 10/10 otherwise.
Most of your examples have minor stuff that again doesn't really matter right. God of war ragnarok annoyed me with the african savage girl, but that's about it. I don't know why she was there as she had no place in the game.
But i know your type fairly well. People fall into boxes and that is how it is. No matter how much someone would explain their rationality you would still just keep saying the same things. Agree, disagree. It doesn't really matter right. People will think what they think, do what they want. What i think or you think doesn't mean shite. So i don't really try to turn your opinions or anything, just explaining whatever you seem to not really get.
Oh, please teach as your non-binary way of thinking in which using bluesky is an argument against a game.
The incoming Horizon game looks like ass in almost every aspect. "Wokeness" won't have anything to do with its most likely failure.
BG3 10/10
The vast majority of games have minor "woke" elements in them. It's about how much opportunity for outrage some of these games provide. A poorly written game will provide more avenues for outrage than other games which are popular enough to crush any attempt of outrage. This is how it is in the era of social media, set fires for clicks.
Oh the irony, you speak about people falling into boxes after you categorized people based on the social media they use.
For a good game you need a passionate and very talented producer. Big companies don't favour people that are actually good in what they do to reach the top cause it's all politics. So every big studio goes down eventually.
The vast majority of games fail because they are not good. You just like to believe otherwise to feed your bias.
" feed your bias" talk for yourself.
Talking about the same shit over and over will get boring especially if it's shoehorned in by talentless ppl becasue they got hired for some random reason.
Acting like there wasnt a huge backlash against it is just insane.
Companies didn't only add woke shit they made it their company policy by hiring and doing sensitivity courses and such plus esg scores plus hiring companies like sweet baby inc.
But you do you. Probably we wont have these discussion in a couple of years anymore anyhow
